A method to manufacture a divided waveplate filter by laser irradiation. A material layer is formed on the surface of a substrate material. A laser oscillator programmed to form a predetermined pattern scans light to form the divided waveplates. In some embodiments, the divided waveplate material layer may be selectively removed by laser ablation. In some embodiments, the material layer has a phase-difference characteristic and the divided waveplates may be formed by removing the phase-difference characteristic of the material layer using laser light without removing the material layer itself. The material layer may be covered by a laser absorbing layer such as titanium oxide. The divided waveplate may be protected by covering the entire surface with a protective layer 6.

Method for manufacturing divided waveplate filter

A controller () designates the method of integrating viewpoint images. An image integrator () creates an integrated image by placing individual viewpoint images in appropriate positions. A 3D image control information creator () creates 3D image control information by formatting the placement mode of individual viewpoint images and various 3-dimensional image characteristics. An encoder () encodes integrated image data. A multiplexer () multiplexes the coded data and the 3D image control information and outputs them. A filename deciding unit () decides the name of a file when multiplexed data is recorded as a file. A storage directory deciding unit () decides the directory in which a file to be recorded is stored. A file creator () records a file with the decided filename under the decided storage directory. Thus, the distinction between 3-dimensional display image data and 2-dimensional image data can be clarified.

This invention provides a stereoscopic-vision image processing apparatus, a stereoscopic-vision image providing method, and an image display method that are capable of managing specification of display unit on which a stereoscopic-vision image is desired to be displayed as accessory information (assumed display information). A polarizing plate () having a rightward and upward polarization angle is provided on a display screen (), and a &#xbd;-wave plate () whose optical axis is at 45 deg. to said polarization angle is applied to said right half. A &#xbd;-wave plate () whose optical axis is orthogonal to that of said &#xbd;-wave plate () is applied to a right-eye side of a polarizing plate () (glasses) which has a leftward and upward polarization angle and which is to be worn by a viewer. Thus, images for left and right eyes can be viewed by left and right eyes through the &#xbd;-wave plates. The image for a right eye () that should not enter a left eye () is completely blocked by a polarization angle orthogonal thereto. The image for a left eye () that should not enter a right eye () is completely blocked to prevent crosstalk between the left and right images because the optical axes of the two phase difference plates () are in an orthogonal state in which the coordinate axis is rotated 90 deg. to cancel the phase difference to realize an orthogonal light-blocking state of the polarizing plates ().
