Parking support systems and methods for use with a vehicle obtain image data from an imaging device provided on the vehicle. The systems and methods output an image on a display on the basis of the image data, generate a predicted course line on the basis of a steering angle of the vehicle on the image, and generate a vehicle width guide line indicating a vehicle width on the image. The systems and methods determine whether the vehicle is in an enter-starting state in which the vehicle is about to enter a parking target area and, when it is determined that the vehicle is in the enter-starting state, extend the vehicle width guide line in a rearward direction of the vehicle.

A vehicle control apparatus includes an attribute information collection unit for collecting attribute information relevant to a plurality of units in a vehicle, an environmental information collection unit for collecting environmental information, a required performance detection unit for detecting a required performance necessary for the vehicle based on the collected environmental information, a controlled target determination unit for determining a unit to be controlled based on the collected attribute information and required performance, and a control unit for controlling the unit by calculating a control variable for the unit.

An automatic transmission control apparatus includes a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which, in turn, includes a primary pulley, a secondary pulley, a belt stretched between the primary pulley and the secondary pulley. The control apparatus further includes a pinching pressure generator for generating a pinching pressure on the belt, a travel environment all detector for detecting the travel environment of a vehicle, a torque variation estimator for estimating the transmission torque variation during travel, and a pinching pressure changer for changing the pinching pressure based on the estimation. The pinching pressure is prevented from constantly increasing because the transmission torque variation during travel is estimated, and the pinching pressure for the belt is changed based on the estimation. Accordingly, the torque transmission efficiency can be increased, and the fuel efficiency can thus be improved.

The invention makes it possible to acquire the dead angle (dead spot) information as images properly related to the field of view of a driver by an arrangement of image pickup units. There is provided a driver assist system including one or more image pickup units, a control unit for processing the taken picture, and a monitor for displaying the processed picture. The image pickup unit is so disposed over a corner of the vehicle by directing its optical axis in such a direction that the corner of the vehicle, an external field at least in the vicinity of the corner and infinity may be seen in one display screen.

Driving support device

A vehicle control unit controls a vehicle having a device capable of controlling deceleration, such as a continuously variable transmission. An information detection device is capable of determining a relationship between the instant vehicle and a preceding vehicle running in front of the instant vehicle, for example, a headway distance and a relative speed therebetween. Based on the information derived from the detection device, the vehicle correlation is determined and compared with a predetermined target correlation. Then, deceleration of the instant vehicle is set by a deceleration setting device such that the determined correlation reaches the predetermined target correlation. The device for performing deceleration is controlled based on the deceleration that has been set.
