A typical configuration of the angle adjustment mechanism according to the present invention is provided with a parabolic mirror, a housing accommodating a parabolic mirror, a screw including a head arranged outside the housing and a shaft engaged with the parabolic mirror through a hole formed in the housing, and a base portion in contact with both the housing and the parabolic mirror. A force is applied to an engaging portion of the parabolic mirror in a direction approaching the housing and a force is applied to a portion of the parabolic mirror in contact with the base portion in a direction away from the housing. The angle of the parabolic mirror with respect to the housing changes in accordance with the change in the length of a portion where the shaft and the parabolic mirror engage.

Turning on a hollow cathode lamp of an objective element, the intensity of the light is measured while scanning the wavelength within a predetermined range centering around the resonance line of the objective element by rotating a diffraction grating by a pulse motor. Then a spectrum is constructed on the screen of a display unit within the above range, and the user operates an operation unit to point out the peak of the resonance line in the spectrum. The number of the driving pulses sent to the pulse motor when the pointed peak is detected is saved in an EEPROM so that the number corresponds to the wavelength of the resonance line. After that, when the objective element in a sample is measured, the above number is read out from the EEPROM and the pulse signals are sent to the pulse motor by the number, whereby the diffraction grating is set at an angular position corresponding to the resonance line of the element correctly.

Atomic absorption spectrophotometer

A spectroscopic apparatus applicable to both ICP (inductively coupled plasma) emission spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectrometry is provided. The spectroscopic apparatus includes a sample unit on which a plasma torch for ICP emission spectroscopy and a heating tube for atomic absorption spectrometry are mounted. A control unit shifts the sample unit to place a plasma flame that is on an end of the plasma torch in front of the light inlet of a spectroscopic unit when the apparatus is operating in the ICP emission spectroscopic mode and to place a central axis of the heating tube in front of the light inlet when the apparatus is operating in the atomic absorption spectrometric mode. The control unit also shifts the apparatus to a two stage spectral mode for ICP emission spectroscopy and to a one stage spectral mode for atomic absorption spectrometry.

Apparatus applied to spectroscopy

A sample transfer apparatus atomizer connected via tube to a sample receiver for micro-sampling. The sample receiver has a funnel-shaped upward opening and is connected to the tube at the base of the funnel. A control unit controls the apparatus to make sure that the sample injected into the sample receiver will be so positioned in the tube that a quantity of solvent is positioned nearer to the vaporizer than the sample, and preferably another quantity of solvent is positioned nearer to the side of the sample receiver relative to the sample. The presence of solvent in the tube positioned nearer to the vaporizer than the sample delays the sample being sucked by the vaporizer, this preventing interruption of the sample flow in the tube and making the atomic absorption waveform more stable.
