Provided is a display system, including: a display device configured to display an image; and a transmission device configured to simultaneously transmit, to the display device, first image data of a first frame and second image data of a second frame that is one frame before the first frame, the display device including: an overdrive processing unit configured to receive the first image data and the second image data transmitted from the transmission device, and to execute overdrive processing on the first image data based on the received first image data and the received second image data, to thereby generate display data; and a display panel configured to display an image based on the display data generated by the overdrive processing unit.

Transmission device, display device, and display system

A controller in an intermediate inversion drive mode causes a source driver to alternate polarities of voltages applied to pixel electrodes connected to one of source signal lines per plural gate signal lines, and to apply the voltages so that a pair of the pixel electrodes, which are connected to one of the gate signal lines and to source signal lines adjacent to each other, are subjected to different voltage application in polarity from each other, the source driver alternating polarities of the voltages applied to the respective pixel electrodes for each frame. When the source driver, in the intermediate inversion drive mode, applies the voltages sequentially to the pixel electrodes connected to one of the source signal lines, the controller sets a longer voltage application period for the inverted electrode than for the equivalent electrode.

Display device

A display device includes a display portion, a source driver that is connected to a second end of a source signal line to output to the source signal line a first source signal for a first pixel electrode and a second source signal for a second pixel electrode, a gate driver that outputs first and second gate signals to first and second gate signal lines, and a controller that controls the gate driver and the source driver to control output timings of the first and second gate signals relative to output timings of the first and second source signals. The controller sets a first time interval from the output timing of the first source signal to the output timing of the first gate signal to be longer than a second time interval from the output timing of the second source signal to the output timing of the second gate signal.

A liquid crystal display comprises: a liquid crystal layer capable of bend orientation; a display screen on which an image is displayed by light transmitted through a bend-oriented liquid crystal layer; and liquid crystal voltage application means for applying a liquid crystal voltage to the liquid crystal layer according to luminance information for each field of image information composed of serial fields, the liquid crystal voltage being applied to cause transmittance of the light to change, thereby sequentially displaying the image corresponding to the fields of the image information, and when the luminance information changes between current and subsequent fields, the liquid crystal voltage application means applies the liquid crystal voltage which changes so as to have a value according to the luminance information by the time the liquid crystal voltage is applied for the subsequent field.

OCB liquid crystal display with active matrix and supplemental capacitors and driving method for the same

A display control circuit includes a vertical timing control circuit that generates first and second start signals, a panel driving unit that sequentially drives a plurality of OCB liquid crystal pixels in units of one row under the control of the first start signal to hold pixel voltages for gradation display in the pixels PX of the driven row, and that sequentially drives the pixels in units of at least one row under the control of the second start signal to hold pixel voltages for black insertion in the pixels of the driven row, and a light source driving unit that drives a plurality of backlight sources arranged substantially in parallel to the rows of pixels. In particular, the light source driving unit is configured to start, in synchronism with the first start signal, an operation for sequentially blinking the backlight sources with a predetermined duty ratio. The predetermined duty ratio is determined in accordance with a dimmer signal from outside such that the predetermined duty ratio, at a maximum value thereof, is not greater than a ratio of a holding period of the pixel voltage for gradation display to a sum of the holding period of the pixel voltage for gradation display and a holding period of the pixel voltage for black insertion.

Display control circuit, display control method, and liquid crystal display device

A liquid-crystal-panel drive and driving method capable of preventing unevenness on a display face from occurring after turning off a power supply in a liquid crystal display apparatus using OCB mode liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display apparatus includes a liquid crystal layer using OCB mode liquid crystal, a driver applying a voltage to the liquid crystal layer, a liquid-crystal driving power supply supplying power to the driver, and a switch outputting an on/off signal to the driver. When the switch outputs an off signal, the driver applies a predetermined voltage that can be applied to each pixel of the liquid crystal layer for a predetermined time, and after the elapse of the predetermined time, stops the supply of power to the driver from the liquid-crystal driving power supply.

Liquid crystal display

A flat display panel comprises a matrix array of pixels that displays an image, a controller that receives a video signal supplied externally along with a horizontal sync signal defining a horizontal scanning period and a vertical sync signal defining a vertical scanning period, a driver circuit that is controlled by the controller and writes the video signal and non-video signal into each row of pixels in each vertical scanning period, and an insertion timing setting section that controls a write timing of the non-video signal to synchronize with a write timing of the video signal. The insertion timing setting section is configured to count the number of horizontal sync signals supplied within the vertical scanning period defined by each vertical sync signal, and then determine the write timing of the non-video signal based on a result of counting.

Flat display panel driving method and flat display device

A signal converting section increases a transfer rate of an input image signal to be supplied to a liquid crystal panel and, at the same time, also inserts a non-image signal for applying a predetermined voltage to liquid-crystal cells in a space of the input image signal and supplies it as a picture-element signal to a source driver. To each picture cell, an input image signal and a non-image signal are sequentially written with positive or negative polarity. For all picture elements, after the input image signal is written, the non-image signal equal in polarity to the input image signal is always written. Furthermore, after the non-image signal is written, an image signal opposite in polarity to the non-image signal is always written. Thus, when an image is displayed on the liquid crystal panel in OCB mode, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of back transition and carry out image display evenly.

Liquid crystal display unit and driving method therefor

A liquid crystal display device includes a signal conversion part (), a drive pulse generation part (), a source driver (), a gate driver (), and a multiplexer part (). In addition, between the source driver () and a display region part () there is provided an intersection part () where, when source lines (S, S, S, S, . . . ) in the display region part are divided into groups each including four source lines, lines that correspond to two source lines (Sand S) located the second and third from an end in each group intersect each other. With the liquid crystal display device using the multiplexer part for switching a plurality of source lines in a time-sharing manner, the degradation of the display quality of pixels caused by, for example, an insufficient writing capability to the pixels is improved.

Liquid crystal display device
