High intensity discharge lamp

A high-intensity discharge lamp connected to a lighting device has various superior emission properties such as efficiency. The discharge lamp includes a translucent ceramic discharge vessel, in which a pair of electrodes and a discharge medium are inserted. The lamp further includes an outer jacket, in which the arc tube is disposed, and a pair of feeder members. The discharge medium has metal halides including those of Na, Tl and Tm or Na, Tl, In and Tm, and the ratio (MTm/M) of the weight of the gross sealed mass M of the metal halides to the filled mass MTm of the Tm halide is about 0.4&#x2266;MTm/M&#x2266;0.9. The deviation in chromaticity (d.u.v.) on the x-y chromaticity coordinates (CIE 1931) for the overall operating position during the life of the lamp is within the range of about &#x2212;0.006 to +0.010.

High-intensity discharge lamp with particular metal halide gas filling and lighting device

A high pressure discharge lamp comprises a light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel having a swollen portion defining a discharge space and a pair of slender cylindrical portions formed in integral with the swollen portion and communicating with the swollen portion at opposite ends of the swollen portion, wherein the inner surface of the boundary portion between the swollen portion and the each slender cylindrical portion defines a discontinuous inflection, and a pair of the electrodes which penetrate the slender cylindrical portions of the light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel and lie in the swollen portion of the light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel at their distal ends, lead-conductors connected to the proximal ends of the electrodes, sealed in the light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel at least at their mid-portions and exposing outside from the light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel at their proximal ends, and a filling filled in the light-transmissive ceramic discharge vessel.

The invention provides the high-intensity discharge lamp and the high-intensity discharge lamp lighting system and the lighting system using the high-intensity discharge lamp showing the low enough starting voltage. The high-intensity discharge lamp comprising a lighting-source bulb provided with an enclosure, a light-transmissive ceramic enclosure defining a pair of small-diameter cylinders communicating with the enclosure at both ends thereof, a pair of electrodes and discharge agent, a metallic coil which is wound on the outside surface of at least one small-diameter cylinder and coupled to the other end of the electrode to have the same potential with the electrode, a jacket-bulb which hermetically accommodates therein the lighting-source bulb and the metallic coil, and a pair of outer lead terminals which are coupled to the pair of electrodes and hermetically led outside the jacket-bulb. The metallic coil is preferably wound for four turns or more on the small-diameter cylinder, and placed its one end near the boundary to the enclosure of the light-transmissive ceramic discharge enclosure, and the winding pitch of the metallic coil resides in the range of 100% to 500%. Further, the length L of the metallic coil is 0.3 to 1.0 times the length of the small-diameter cylinder. Furthermore, the end of it which is opposite to the enclosure is coupled to have the same potential as the other electrode.

A high-pressure discharge lamp which includes a light-transmitting air-tight discharge container, an electrode formed of tungsten as a main component and fixedly sealed in the discharge container, and a discharge medium containing a halide of a light emitting metal and sealed in the discharge container. The surface of the electrode is defined as follows. That is, the average value of center line average roughness Ra of the surface, is set to 0.3 &mgr;m or less, or the average value of the center line average roughness Rz of the surface of the electrode, is set to 1.0 &mgr;m or less, or the average value of the surface area increasing rate of the surface of the electrode is set to 1.0% or less.

A high-intensity discharge lamp lighting device includes a high-intensity discharge lamp containing a light-transmissive discharge enclosure having an envelope defining a discharge space and a hollow member having an inner diameter smaller than the envelope, an elongate electrode being inserted into the hollow member of the light-transmissive discharge enclosure in leaving a narrow gap from the inner wall of the hollow member and having leading end protruding into the hollow member of the light-transmissive discharge enclosure, a lead-conductor having a leading end coupled to an base end of the electrode, a middle portion attached to the light-transmissive discharge enclosure and a base end exposing outward from the light-transmissive discharge enclosure, and discharge agent including at least neon and argon and filled into the light-transmissive discharge enclosure, and lighting circuit means having a load characteristics continuous from a secondary open-circuit voltage to a secondary short-circuit current for lighting the high-intensity discharge lamp at a high-frequency.

The high-pressure discharge lamp of the present invention comprises a light-transmitting ceramic discharge vessel (,), power-supplying conductors (,), a pair of electrodes (,), seals (,) made of ceramic-sealing compound, and a discharge medium. The discharge vessel has an inner volume of 0.1 cc or less. The distal ends of the electrodes are arranged so as to maintain a distance d1 of 1.0 mm or more from the inner surface of the light-transmitting vessel on a plane which is perpendicular to the axis of the light-transmitting vessel and includes the distal ends of the electrodes.

The present invention provides a high-voltage discharge lamp having an internal volume of 0.05 cc or less that is small yet maintains a desirable lifetime and a high luminous efficiency, a high-voltage discharge lamp device using the lamp, and a lighting apparatus using the lamp. The high-voltage discharge lamp comprises a ceramic discharge vessel that has a spherical, bulging section and a pair of small diameter cylindrical sections. The spherical, bulging section surrounds a discharge space. The small diameter cylindrical sections are connected to the ends of the spherical, bulging section. Electrode-integrated power-supplying conductors are used. Each conductor comprises a seal part and a halide-resistant part. The halide-resistant part having a proximal end connected to the distal end of the seal part. The distal end of the halide-resistant part projects into the spherical, bulging section of the translucent ceramic discharge vessel forming an electrode. A narrow gap is provided between the halide-resistant part and the inner surface of the small diameter cylindrical section. A discharge medium containing a metal halide and rare gas are filled in the translucent ceramic discharge vessel. When materials having a high average linear transmittance, such as YAG, are used as light-transmitting ceramics, the luminous efficiency of a small high-voltage discharge lamp will be increased.
