A brake cable connecting apparatus having a cable end insertion groove formed by U-like folding the free end of a brake lever on one of brake shoes and a guiding member provided onto the cable end insertion groove . The guiding member tends to move toward the bottom of the insertion groove by a coil spring . When the cable end is advanced in the insertion groove , the guiding member moves upward, passage of the cable end is permitted by displacement of the guiding member in a direction away from the bottom of the insertion groove , then the guiding member immediately moves downward, thereby engaging a backward surface of the cable end ; therefore, restricting the cable end from coming off.

Drum brake device with automatic shoe clearance adjustment device

A device for detachably connecting an end fitting of a control cable with a control lever in an operating device is composed in such manner that it makes the operating device to be more short and workability of cable connection to be enhanced. The operating device consists of a strut and a control lever which are pivotally journalled to each other. A end fitting of a control cable is engaged with a free end of the control lever, which free end is bifurcated by means of planar members spaced from each other so as to define a gap. In order to engage the end fitting with the free end of the control lever, the end fitting is set so that its long side is parallel with the planar members and then passed through the gap. Thereafter, the end fitting is rotated around the cable axis by an angle of 90 deg. and the cable is pulled to engage with the free end of the control lever.

A brake cable connecting device for fastening a brake cable to a brake lever in a blind manner reduces cost and weight of the brake device. The connecting device is formed of a U-shaped channel provided on a free end of the brake lever and a guide unit for automatically attaching the brake cable to the free end of the brake lever when the brake cable is pushed toward the brake lever. The guide unit made separately from the brake lever includes a cable retaining groove bent into U-shape and mounted in the channel of the brake lever, a guide member for guiding the brake cable toward the free end of the brake lever, and a ramped surface for deflecting the brake cable when the brake cable moves along the surface thereof for generating a return force in the brake cable. The brake cable snaps in the cable retaining groove by the return force when an end thereof passes the peak of the ramped surface.
