A high resolution optical microscope consists of an irradiation spot beam-forming mask which is disposed in a dark or a bright field, whereby a diameter of each of a plurality of irradiation spot beams onto an object to be measured is made smaller than a size of the object, beyond Rayleigh's resolution limit. In the irradiation spot beam-forming mask, a phase array is regularly disposed in a two-dimensional direction so that neighboring portions of each of the irradiation spot beams are optically phase-shifted from one another at 180.degree.. Thus, a wide observation surface and a prompt measurement can be performed with a high resolution of 0.1 .mu.m or less, far beyond Rayleigh's resolution limit.

A carrier composed of particulate polymer of at least one monomer represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, which may be the same or different, are hydrogen atoms or alkyl groups having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R.sup.3 is a straight-chain or branched alkylene group having 2 or 3 carbon atoms, which group may be substituted by a hydroxyl group; X's, which may be the same or different, are halogen atoms; m is zero or an integer of 1 to 10; and n is an integer of 1 to 5, or a particulate polymer of said monomer and at least one other copolymerizable monomer. Said carrier is suitable for supporting a biological substance such as an immunoreactive substance, an enzyme, a cell, a cell-discriminating substance, and the like, particularly an immunoreactive substance.

A molded article of hydrous polymer obtained by adding an oily substance to a polymer latex or a macromolecular substance latex containing anionic groups and having a polymer concentration of 20-70% by weight, said latex being selected from the group consisting of (a) polymer latexes prepared by emulsion polymerization process, (b) polymer latexes obtained by re-emulsification process and (c) a latex of a natural macromolecular substance, adding a polyvalent metal compound and/or polyether to the resulting mixture and molding the mixture without heating. Said molded article is a novel one satisfying the following three requirements: (1) it is not deformed even when held in hot water, (2) its tack strength does not change with a change of temperature and (3) it is kept soft even below the freezing temperature of water. It is useful as a material which is kept cool for a long time or as a base for plasters.

Molded article of hydrous polymer and process for producing the same

An organic solvent- or water-developable photosensitive composition consisting essentially of a ring-opened polymer or copolymer of at least one norbornene derivative having at least one substituent selected from the group consisting of ester groups, nitrile groups, carboxyl groups, amide groups, imide groups, hydroxyl groups, halogens and carboxylic acid anhydride groups, or a ring-opened copolymer of at least one said norbornene derivative and at least one cycloolefin other than cyclohexene, or a hydrolysis product of said ring-opened polymer or copolymer and a photosensitive crosslinking agent or photosensitizer soluble in organic solvents or water. The above photosensitive composition is excellent in sensitivity, adhesion and stability.

Photosensitive cross-linkable azide containing polymeric composition

A gypsum composition obtained by molding and drying an aqueous slurry comprising calcined gypsum, polyvinyl alcohol, and at least one metal compound. The composition has high surface hardness and high water resistance.
