This invention is directed to a fur-like pile fabric of two-layer construction formed of guard hair fibers and under-fur fibers and used as artificial fur and a method for the production thereof. This invention produces a pile fabric 1 possessing guard hair fibers 2 having sharpened leading terminals and under-fur fibers having a satisfactorily uniform length by a method that comprises preparing a pile knitted or woven fabric with a pile yarn obtained by mixing limited-length polyester type fibers for guard hair fibers of sharpened terminals with limited-length polyester type fibers more susceptible to the action of an alkali treating agent and used for under-fur fibers, imparting an alkali treating agent 6 of a specific viscosity to the hair-raised surface of the pile knitted or woven fabric, and thereafter heat-treating the alkali-treated fabric thereby shortening the under-fur fibers and sharpening the leading terminals of the under-fur fibers.

Fur-like piled fabric and method for production thereof

Disclosed is artificial fur which comprises an erect pile layer consisting of a number of erect fibers in different colors which are substantially complementary with one another, the fibers being arranged adjacent to one another in the erect pile layer.

An artificial fur having an at least double erect pile layer structure comprising an erect pile layer of long fibers and that of short fibers. The lightness of the short fibers is lower by 0.5 or above, preferably by 2.5 or above, than that of the long fibers.

Improved yarn for manufacturing artificial fur, having underfur and guard hairs. The guard hairs have a multiplicity of staple fibers having tapered ends. The underfur fibers are shorter and of less denier. The guard hairs and underfur fibers are relatively longitudinally slidable to separate at least some of the fibers from others of the fibers. Temporary binding means may be connected to maintain the respective fibers in continuity and resistant to longitudinal sliding separation during one or more fabrication operations. Inactivation of the binding means breaks the continuity of said pile fibers whereupon at least some of the fibers may be longitudinally slidingly separated without being broken.

The above-mentioned artificial fur is manufactured by a first step of forming a material pile cloth provided with a ground construction and numerous yarn-like piles projected upward from the ground construction, and a second step of raising the side of said yarn-like piles. An intermediate step of applying a backing treatment to the pile cloth is preferably applied as a process between the above-mentioned two steps of processing. As a final process, a finishing process is applied to the material pile cloth. A conventional dyeing process can be applied.

The coefficient of finishing twist utilization as defined in the specification is at least 150%. Also disclosed is a method of producing a twisted yarn comprising drafting a sheaf of staple fibers, supplying the sheaf to a bundling zone to reduce it to a bundled sheaf having an initial twist of substantially zero, drafting another sheaf in a similar manner, doubling at least two such bundled sheaves of staple fibers, and twisting them together.
