A plasma display panel has plural discharge cells between two opposing first and second substrates. Each of the discharge cells includes at least one pair of electrodes for generating a discharge for display, a discharge gas and a phosphor film for emitting visible light by being excited by ultraviolet rays produced by the discharge of the discharge gas. Laminated members are dispersed in a plane within each of the discharge cells inside the first substrate from which visible light for display is emitted, and each of the laminated members includes a light absorption layer disposed on a side of the first substrate on which ambient light is incident and a light reflection layer disposed on a phosphor-film side of the laminated members. A visible-light-reflection layer is disposed on a surface of the phosphor film on a side thereof opposite from a space in which the discharge is generated.

A plasma display panel includes plural discharge cells and a barrier rib layer which defines the discharge cells. Each discharge cells has two opposing electrodes on front and rear substrates, respectively, for generating discharge therebetween, discharge gas and phosphor films. The barrier rib layer is fabricated as a sheet separate from the substrates, is provided with openings each forming a discharge space, and is sandwiched between the substrates. Plasma display panel driving system and method

A manufacturing method for a gas discharge type display panel makes it possible to manufacture an environmentally friendly substrate with high accuracy and yet at low cost. According to the manufacturing methods electrodes are formed on a back substrate by photolithography or printing, then a glass paste is printed to a height of approximately 10 &mgr;m-500 &mgr;m by printing. A barrier rib blanks are produced by rolling under pressure the glass paste by using a roller provided with grooves. The roller is heated in advance. The barrier rib blanks are sintered into the barrier ribs.

Manufacturing method for gas discharge type display panel

In order to reduce the address voltage in a gas discharge type display pane, the address electrodes in the display panel are formed on the barrier ribs. Further, a fluorescent layer is coated on the wall surface of the barrier ribs thereby suppressing erroneous light emission or degradation of the fluorescent layer during address discharge.

A plasma display panel for plasma display system provides excellent optical characteristics, including a color purity, contrast, and luminance, of a plasma display system. A gas discharge display panel which provides sufficient contrast and good accuracy and is high in yield. When a voltage is applied to auxiliary discharge electrodes, auxiliary discharge occurs in an auxiliary discharge space and excited charged particles communicate with a main discharge space through a priming path made in a discharge space separation bulkhead. In this state, when an alternating voltage is applied between bus electrodes on a front substrate, main discharge occurs in the main discharge space, causing Xe atoms in the sealed gas to generate ultraviolet rays, causing a phosphor to emit light. However, since the auxiliary discharge is shielded by a bulkhead and a barrier rib, the phosphor does not emit light when only auxiliary discharge occurs.
