The present invention provides a polarizing film or a polarizer that has an elastic modulus of at most about 3500 N/mmand suppresses occurrence of warping, the polarizing film is obtained by adsorbing a dichroic material in a polyvinyl alcohol-based film 20 &#x3bc;m in thickness and stretching the film. The polarizing film has a transmittance of at least 43% and a polarization degree of at least 98%. A transparent protective layer is laminated on at least one surface of the polarizing film to form a polarizing plate.

A hard-coating layer is formed on at least one surface of a transparent plastic film substrate using a material for forming a hard-coating layer. The material contains Components A, B, and C. Component A is at least one of urethane acrylate and urethane methacrylate. Component B is at least one of polyol acrylate and polyol methacrylate. Component C is a polymer containing a repeating unit represented by General Formula 1 indicated below.

There is provided an antiglare hard-coated film that can maintain antiglare properties and suppress a reduction in the display contrast of a display, when composed of a transparent plastic film substrate and an antiglare hard coat layer formed thereon. The antiglare hard-coated filmincludes a transparent film substrateand a hard coat layerthat is provided on at least one side of the transparent film substrate, contains fine particles, and has an irregular surface, wherein the fine particleshave an average particle size of 6 &#x3bc;m to 15 &#x3bc;m and form irregularities with an average slope angle &#x3b8;a of 0.4&#xb0; to 1.5&#xb0;, and the antiglare hard-coated film satisfies the relation: {(the contrast ratio)/(the contrast ratio of a hard-coated film without the fine particles)}&#xd7;100&#x2267;60%.

Antiglare hard-coated film

A hard-coated antiglare film that has excellent antiglare properties, prevents a glare phenomenon from occurring, and prevents white blur from occurring to have excellent display contrast in bright light. The hard-coated antiglare film includes a transparent plastic film substrate and a hard-coating antiglare layer containing fine particles. The hard-coating antiglare layer is formed on at least one surface of the transparent plastic film substrate. The hard-coating antiglare layer has a surface with an uneven structure. Such a polarizing plate is produced by laminating a protective layer on at least one surface of a polarizer while limiting moisture content of the polarizer to a range from 5% to 30%. A value for the moisture content is obtained by a calculation based on an equation of moisture content (%)=[(A&#x2212;B)/B]&#xd7;100, when A denotes weight of the polarizer before bonding and B denotes weight of the polarizer after being kept in a dryer of 120&#xb0; C. for seven hours.

A polarizing plate having excellent moisture durability and a liquid crystal display using the same are disclosed. The polarizing plate is produced by covering all surfaces and sides of a polarizer with low moisture-permeable layers having moisture permeability of 310 g/m&#xb7;24 h or less. The rate of change in dimension of the polarizer in the uniaxially stretched direction is &#xb1;0.1% or less after left at a temperature of 60&#xb0; C. and humidity of 95% for 100 hours.

A polarizing plate and a liquid crystal display using the same are disclosed. The polarizing plate includes a polarizer made of a synthetic resin and protective films. The same protective films are attached to both sides of the polarizer. When a FTIR-ATR method is carried out with respect to the both sides of the protective film and a peak intensity (A) in the wavelength range around 1488 cmof one side, a peak intensity (B) in the wavelength range around 1365 cmof one side, a peak intensity (A') in the wavelength range around 1488 cmof another side and a peak intensity (B&#x2032;) in the wavelength range around 1365 cmof another side are measured, and (C) and (C&#x2032;) are represented by the relationships: (A)/(B)=(C) and (A&#x2032;)/(B&#x2032;)=(C&#x2032;), (C)/(C&#x2032;)&#x2267;1.2 is satisfied. The same sides of the protective films having the (C) and (C&#x2032;) are adhered to both sides of the polarizer. In the polarizing plates, in accordance with the invention, even at the exposure to heat and humidity, advantageously occurrence of curling (warping) is reproduced.
