A fuse including a housing having upper and lower portions, a plurality of terminal portions disposed in the lower portion, each of said terminal portions having first and second prongs and a gap therebetween, the gap narrowing from a first width adjacent an upper end of said first and second prongs to a second width adjacent a lower end of said first and second prongs, a fusible link disposed in the upper portion of the housing between said plurality of terminal portions, and a partition in said lower portion of said housing, wherein a distance between each of the second prongs and the partition increases from a first end of each of the second prongs proximate the upper portion to a second end of each of the second prongs distal from the upper portion for allowing the second ends to be displaced toward the partition before engaging the partition.

Tuning fork terminal slow blow fuse

A fuse employing a plurality of tuning fork terminal configurations with an improved current capacity within a smaller footprint and a housing design to provide the terminals with insert protection and strain relief.

A blade fuse includes a first terminal includes an outer edge and an inner edge, the inner edge includes a first portion notched away from the inner edge beneath the first portion; a second terminal includes an outer edge and an inner edge, the inner edge include a second portion notched away from the inner edge beneath the second portion; an element extending from the first portion of the inner edge of the first terminal to the second portion of the inner edge of the second terminal; and a housing covering the element.

Blade fuse

The present invention provides a fuse block having a plurality of fuse connections. The fuse connections include an array of embedded terminals that contact the initially provided fuse elements. When one of the fuse elements opens, an operator remakes the open connection by inserting an external replacement fuse. The fuse connections therefore eliminate the need to initially provide separate external fuses. In an embodiment, the terminals include fork shaped projections that receive one of the terminals of the replacement fuse, which also eliminates the need for additional female inserts commonly found in automobile fuse blocks. The fuse block is simple, wherein a plurality of same may be provided in an automobile to cut down on long lengths of wire running from load devices to a traditional, single centrally located fuse block.

Multi-element fuse array

The invention is a blade fuse having a housing section and a fusible element. The housing includes an insulating portion or tab extending from the housing section, and disposed between opposite ends of the fusible element. One aspect of the invention is a blade fuse where the insulating tab is integral with the housing. The insulating tab may be integral with the head portion of the housing, and the insulating tab may extend downwardly from the head portion. In yet another embodiment, the invention is directed to a one-piece, metallic element for a blade fuse. The blade fuse element has a fusible link and a pair of terminals. The fusible element extends above, rather than between, the terminals.

High voltage automotive use

A fuse is disclosed having terminal leads electrically connected by a fusible link, and insulated within a housing. The housing is preferably made from a material which burns cleanly and has improved ablative qualities to prevent accelerated arcing within the plasma generated by the housing during high energy periods. The desired material should have an arc resistance of about 60 to about 120 seconds, a CTI of about 250 to about 400 volts, an arc ignition resistance of greater than 120 arcs, an arc tracking rate of about 25 to about 80 millimeters per minute, and a hot wire ignition value of greater than 120 seconds. Such material being capable of increasing the voltage rating of a standard 32 volt fuse almost ten-fold to about 300 volts.

Fuse having improved fuse housing

A shield for an electrical fuse, including an inner enclosure for housing the electrical fuse and a pair of outwardly flaring end portions extending from the opposite ends of the enclosure. The shield includes walls separating the inner enclosure from each of the outwardly flaring end portions, and a slot in the walls for the extension through that slot of at least a terminal portion of the electrical fuse. The shield may be made of a pair of identical housing pieces with mating tongue and groove elements disposed substantially along the peripheries of those pieces. Preferably, the tongue element of the housing pieces is disposed on the opposite side as the groove element of the housing piece. Each of the outwardly flaring ends, or alternatively the walls, may cooperatively form a seal to aid in preventing entry of moisture or dirt into the shield. A sealing portion that aids in forming the seal may comprise a resilient, compressible grommet. The outwardly flaring end portions include a pair of snap-locking elements for securing a separate, connecting section to the outwardly flaring end portions.

Housing for double-ended fuse

The invention is a housing for a blade fuse, and a blade fuse that uses that housing. The housing includes a first generally planar wall and a second generally planar wall. The first and the second generally planar walls each have an outer surface and an inner surface, and the inner surface of the first generally planar wall faces the inner surface of the second generally planar wall. Each of the generally planar walls has at least one rib extending from its inner surfaces. The one or more rib on the inner surface of the first generally planar wall extends towards, and is generally aligned with, the one or more corresponding rib on the inner surface of the second generally planar wall. These generally aligned rib sets form a gap, and the gap is sized so as to permit the close-fitting insertion of a fuse element between that gap.

Barrier fuse

A metallic element for use with a blade fuse or other electrical component, and a blade fuse or other electrical component that includes that metallic element as one of its components. The fuse maybe mounted in a fuseholder having either male terminal receiving clips, or female terminal receiving clips. The metallic element includes two terminal portions, each made of a first prong and a second prong. The second prong is spaced apart from the first prong, and a fusible link is secured to each of the two terminal portions. The spaced apart first and second prongs together form a gap between them to ensure secure engagement of the first and second prongs with male terminal blade-receiving clips.

Dual use fuse

A housing for an electrical overload protection cable assembly having a first cable, a second cable, a fusible link, and a protective housing. The protective housing has a first housing member and a second housing member. The first and second housing members each have a first end portion and a second end portion. The first and second housing members are coupled to form the protective housing having a channel extending from the first end to the second end. A first rib extends from the protective housing into the channel, and a second rib extends from the protective housing into the channel. The second rib is transverse to the first rib.

Housing for cable assembly

A fusible link for a cable assembly is provided. The fusible link has a link segment having a first member extending transversely from the link segment, and a second member extending transversely from the link segment. A first end of the link segment engaging a first cable of the cable assembly, and a second end of the link segment engaging a second cable of the cable assembly. A method of manufacturing the fusible link is also provided.

Fusible link for cable assembly and method of manufacturing same

An improved cable assembly for electrical overload protection, the cable assembly having a first cable, a second cable, a fusible link, and a protective housing. The first and second cables have a protective covering and an end portion extending past the protective covering. The fusible link is located between the first and second cables such that the end portions of the cables are electrically connected to opposing ends of the fusible link. The protective housing encases a portion of the fusible link, with an intermediate section of the protective housing being spaced away from a portion of the fusible link to form a cavity. The protective housing also engages a portion of the first and second cables to form a rigid interconnecting housing around the fusible link and portions of the first and second cables.
