A blend of polyisobutylene-based thermoplastic vulcanizate, styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene, low molecular weight liquid polybutene, polyolefin, polyphenylene ether, and, optionally, filler is disclosed which has good processability, lower compression set, and more effective barrier properties for oxygen than the same blend without the styrene-ethylene-ethylene-propylene-styrene and the polyphenylene ether. The blend is superior in oxygen transmission rate properties than a conventional styrenic block copolymer containing thermoplastic elastomer.

Thermoplastic elastomer compounds exhibiting superior compression set properties

An essentially halogen-free, plasticizer-free thermoplastic elastomer compound is disclosed. The compound has from 10-80 weight percent of a hydrogenated styrene butadiene copolymer having a styrene content of less than 20 weight percent; from 20-90 weight percent of a polyolefin; and less than about 3 weight percent of antioxidant. The compound is capable of being solvent bonded or welded to another thermoplastic material using cyclohexanone alone or with methyl ethyl ketone. The compound is especially useful as medical tubing connected to other parts of medical equipment. The bond strength of the compound to the other thermoplastic material is properly determined only after multiple days of bonding.

Solvent bondable thermoplastic elastomers

A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) is disclosed which is a combination of a non-elastomeric polyolefin and two different non-crosslinked elastomers and optional softening oil. The TPE can be used as an outer layer on at least a portion of the outer surface of a co-extruded, blow-molded polyolefin plastic article to provide a 'soft touch' gripping surface on the article.

Co-extrudable thermoplastic elastomer compound for blow molded plastic articles

Polypropylene resin compositions are provided that are useful in the production of thermoformed articles and biaxially oriented polypropylene films (BOPPs), tapes and fibers. The resins of the present invention are blends of high crystalline (low solubles) polypropylene homopolymer and an ethylene/propylene random copolymer (RCP). These blends can be used to replace standard high solubles BOPP grade polypropylene homopolymers. In addition, the use of high crystalline polypropylene homopolymers in the blends imparts improved stiffness to the finished films while maintaining good processability of the blends. Such polypropylene compositions are effectively produced by in-reactor blending of a high crystalline propylene homopolymer and a propylene/ethylene random copolymer.

Polypropylene blends for non-woven production

The properties and the amounts of polymers produced in the second stage of a polymerization process in the presence of propylene and ethylene or other alpha olefin are controlled by the addition of an external electron donor to the second stage polymerization. The dosage of external donor to the second stage polymerization is based on a percentage of the dosage of external donor to a first stage polymerization of propylene in the process. The external donor added to the second stage is either the same as or different from the external donor added to the first stage.

Process for production of propylene copolymers

A polypropylene resin, useful for the production of biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film, is provided. The polymer of the present invention is a blend of high crystalline polypropylene homopolymer and a high ethylene ethylene/propylene random copolymer (RCP). The present invention also provides a method of preparing the novel resin as well as a novel BOPP film comprising the resin.

The present invention is directed to a high melt flow rate high crystallinity polypropylene homopolymer. The present invention likewise describes a bulk polymerization process using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst to produce the high melt flow rate high crystallinity polypropylene homopolymer according to the invention.

High crystallinity, high melt flow rate polypropylene

The present invention provides polypropylene blends for use in the production of fibers and fabrics. The polypropylene blends according to the current invention comprise from about 85 to about 95 percent by weight of a propylene homopolymer and from about 5 to about 15 percent by weight of an ethylene/propylene random copolymer having an ethylene content of about 7 percent by weight or less. The overall ethylene content of the blends according to the present invention is about 1 percent by weight or less. Polypropylene blends according to the current invention provide lower bonding temperatures and wider bonding windows without the increased smoke generation associated with high solubles homopolymers.

Polypropylene blends for non-woven fabrics

High melt flow rate high crystallinity polypropylene homopolymer are produced in a bulk polymerization process using a Ziegler-Natta catalyst containing a combination of two internal electron donors and selected external donors. The high melt flow rate, high crystallinity polypropylene homopolymers produced according to the current invention display improved flexural modulus and tensile yield stress when nucleated.

Resin compositions for producing biaxially oriented polypropylene films

A thermoplastic polyolefin having a melt flow rate of 20 dg/min or higher at 230&#xb0; C. is produced in reactor without visbreaking. By controlling ratio of the weight average molecular weight of the xylene soluble fraction to the weight average molecular weight of the xylene insoluble fraction, a high melt flow thermoplastic polyolefin can be produced having a good balance of impact and stiffness, tensile elongation at break and gloss properties. Optionally, the ratio of the melt flow rate of the homopolymer phase to the melt flow rate of the total thermoplastic polyolefin can also be controlled. By compounding thermoplastic polyolefins according to the current invention with one or more modifiers, additional compositions can be produced having improved resistance to solvents.

A process for producing propylene homopolymers comprises producing a homopolymer in a reactor train having a first stage and a second stage, wherein the first stage is normally used for homopolymer production and the second stage is normally used only in the production of copolymer blends, and is left idle during homopolymer production. According to the invention, during the production of propylene homopolymer, the polymerization is carried out sequentially in both the first stage and second stage reactors.

Process for production of propylene homopolymers

Propylene homopolymers useful in the manufacture of biaxially oriented films are provided. More particularly, the propylene homopolymers of the present invention are useful as core material for a multilayer biaxially oriented film. The propylene homopolymers of the present invention attain these properties by control of the average meso sequence length, N, in the xylene insoluble phase of the polymer concurrently with control of the quantity of xylene solubles in the polymer as a whole. The propylene homopolymers according to the current invention comprise from about 97 to about 91 percent by weight of a xylene insoluble fraction, and from about 9 to about 3 percent by weight of a xylene soluble fraction. The xylene insoluble fraction has a meso run length of less than or equal to 130. Further, the ratio, r, of the meso run length of the xylene insoluble fraction to the percent content of the xylene soluble fraction in the propylene homopolymers is 22 or less, as determined by the equation:/ %where: Nm=average meso sequence length of the xylene insoluble fraction; and
