Disclosed herein are techniques to coordinate power management between a platform and a panel. Provided are apparatuses, techniques, and circuitry to determine whether to initiate power management features in a panel and send a signal from a platform to the panel including an indication that no frame updates are expected and power management functions can be initiated.

Co-existence of full frame and partial frame idle image updates

Particular embodiments described herein provide for an electronic device that includes a display and is configured to enable a low power display refresh during a semi-active workload. The electronic device can include a display engine and a display panel and a frame is used by the display panel to generate an image on a display backplane. The display panel includes the display backplane, a plurality of row drivers, a plurality of column drivers, and a timing controller. The timing controller can receive a partial update to a frame being displayed as an image on the display backplane and update the image displayed on the display backplane by activating row drivers and a subset of the plurality of available column drivers, wherein the subset is based on the update.

Low power display refresh during semi-active workloads

Technology for a display source device is described. The display source device can receive a frame start indication from a display panel at a start of a frame. The display source device can align a timing of the display source device to a timing of the display panel based on the frame start indication received from the display panel to obtain frame-level synchronization between the display source device and the display panel. The display source device can send one or more frame update regions to the display panel in accordance with the timing of the display source device that is aligned to the timing of the display panel.

Frame-level resynchronization between a display panel and a display source device for full and partial frame updates

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to reduce power consumption and improve battery life of display systems using adaptive sync are disclosed. An example apparatus includes an interface to transmit frame data to a sink device, the frame data generated by a processor; a timer to initiate in response to the transmission of the frame data to the sink device; and the interface to transmit a low power indication to the sink device after the timer reaches a threshold amount of time.

An example display device includes a display screen and a backlight including a light guide frame defining a cavity therein. The example display device includes an integrated circuit coupled to the display screen. The example display device includes a flexible printed circuit in communication with the integrated circuit and including an electrical component coupled thereto. The electrical component is at least partially disposed in the cavity of the light guide frame.

Edge-to-edge display devices and related methods

Various embodiments are generally directed to techniques to partition a display interface such that pixel data associated with display data having indications of an image to be displayed may be transmitted to multiple timing controller and driver (TCON-DR) sets over the display interface without necessitating each TCON-DR set receive all the pixel data. In some examples, the display interface may be partitioned such that each TCON-DR set receives only the pixel data for which the respective TCON-DR set corresponds to.

A platform can notify a panel of further frame updates, whether the frame update is a full frame update or a partial frame update and attributes of the frame update. Methods and apparatus for synchronizing embedded display panels of mobile devices via programmable synchronization links are disclosed. An example mobile device includes a first embedded display panel, a second embedded display panel, a programmable synchronization link, a configuration manager, and a synchronization manager. The programmable synchronization link is operatively coupled to the first and second embedded display panels. The configuration manager is to configure the first embedded display panel as a slave panel, and to configure the second embedded display panel as a master panel. The synchronization manager is to synchronize the slave panel to the master panel via the programmable synchronization link.

Disclosed herein are techniques to provide both asynchronous frame updates and panel self-refresh in a single implementation. A platform can be arranged to provide frame updates asynchronously with the refresh rate of a connected panel while the connected panel can be arranged to self-refresh where no new updates are provided.

In one embodiment, for example, an apparatus may comprise at least one memory and logic, at least a portion of which is implemented in circuitry coupled to the memory, the logic to identify a use state of a display segment of a flexible display, determine whether to alter a power state of the display segment based on the use state of the display segment, and in response to a determination to alter the power state of the display segment, send a power control command to cause the display segment to initiate a power state transition.
