An adhesive composition comprising a copolymer of propylene and at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of ethylene and C&#x3b1;-olefins, the copolymer having (i) a content of units derived from propylene of greater than about 50 mole percent, (ii) a Brookfield viscosity at 190 C from about 50 to about 100,000 cP, (iii) an MWD from about 1.5 to about 15, and (iv) containing less than about 50 ppm residual catalyst metal.

The present invention relates to compositions and processes of making and using interpolymers having a controlled molecular weight distribution. Multilayer films and film layers derived from novel ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin interpolymers are also disclosed.

Interpolymers suitable for multilayer films

The invention is an article comprising at least two layers, a low crystallinity layer and a high crystallinity layer. One or both layers is capable of being elongated so that a pre-stretched article is capable of being formed.

Multi-layer, elastic articles

Films with excellent machine direction (MD) tear properties comprise at least one layer made from a polymer comprising: (A) at least 50 weight percent (wt%) propylene; and (B) at least 5 wt % ethylene and/or one or more unsaturated comonomers. Representative of component (B) unsatuarated comonomers are the C&#x3b1;-olefins, Cdienes, styrenic compounds, and the like. Preferably, the film has at least one of a (i) haze value of less than about 10, (ii) 45 degree gloss of greater than about 65, and (iii) dart value of greater than about 100 g/mil. In one preferred embodiment, the layer comprises a compolymer characterized as having at least one of the following properties: (i)C NMR peaks corresponding to a regio-error at about 14.6 and about 15.7 ppm, the peaks of about equal intensity, (ii) a B-value greater than about 1.4 when the comonomer content, i.e., the units derived from ethylene and/or the unsaturated comonomer(s), of the copolymer is at least about 3 wt %, (iii) a skewness index, S, greater than about &#x2212;1.20, (iv) a DSC curve with a Tthat remains essentially the same and a Tthat decreases as the amount of comonomer, i.e., the units derived from ethylene and/or the unsaturated comonomer(s), in the copolymer is increased, and (v) an X-ray diffraction pattern that reports more gamma-forn crystals than a comparable copolymer prepared with a Ziegler-Natta (Z-N) catalyst.

The subject invention provides a film having at least one layer comprising an interpolymer of ethylene and at least on comonomer selected from the group consisting of C-C&#x3b1;-olefins, dienes, and cycloalkenes, wherein the interpolymer is characterized as having a high degree of processability, good optical performance, and good mechanical properties. The subject invention provides a film having at least one layer comprising an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one comonomer selected from the group consisting of C -C &agr;-olefins, dienes, and cycloalkenes, wherein the interpolymer is characteried as having a high degree of processability good optical performance, and good mechanical properties. The subject invention further provides film fabrication processes and polymer compositions which are useful in preparing the subject films.

The invention includes a process comprising (a) forming a polymeric admixture including at least one polyolefin which has been prepared using a single site catalyst and at least a crosslinking amount of at least one poly(sulfonyl azide) crosslinking agent; (b) shaping the resulting admixture; and (c) heating the resulting shaped admixture to a temperature at least the decomposition temperature of the crosslinking agent. The steps take place in any sequence and optionally include substeps. The single site catalyst is preferably a constrained geometry or metallocene catalyst, but optionally another transition metal catalyst which is not a traditional Ziegler Natta Ti/MgCl,catalyst such as a vanadium catalyst. The invention further includes all compositions obtainable by the process of the invention as well as all articles formed from these compositions. The articles are preferably thermoformed, compression molded, injection molded, extruded, cast, blow molded, blown, profile extruded, spun, foamed or molded of any composition of the invention. The invention includes a use of any composition of the invention in any process of thermoforming, injection molding, extrusion, casting, blow molding, spinning, blowing, profile extrusion, foaming, compression molding or a combination thereof.

Foamed articles having enhanced tensile, elastic recovery, and creep and fatigue resistance properties are prepared using a dual cure system. This system comprises a heat or radiation-activated first stage cure (which follows or coincides with foaming) followed by a moisture-activated second stage cure. Heat-activated curing systems include peroxide, sulfur, etc., and radiation-activated cure systems include electron beam, gamma-ray, etc. Moisture-activated systems include silane, sulfonyl chloride, and the like.
