A technique facilitates obtaining samples of well fluid or other fluid. A sampling tool comprises a sample chamber for collecting the fluid sample. Access to the sample chamber is controlled with a rod shiftable within the sampling tool. Additionally, a locking mechanism works in cooperation with the rod to lock the rod against undesirable movement at various stages of the sampling operation. The locking mechanism may comprise a pair of locking features which engage a groove in the rod to initially block inadvertent closure of access to the sample chamber and subsequently to block inadvertent opening of access to the sample chamber after collection of the fluid sample.

A sampling tool includes a tubular member and a sampling piston positioned within the tubular member. The sampling piston has a bore formed axially-therethrough. A secondary piston is positioned within the bore of the sampling piston. A check valve assembly is positioned at least partially within the tubular member. The secondary piston and the check valve assembly move together with respect to the tubular member.

Methods and devices for collecting fluid include a self-closing system that automatically halts fluid collection once a sufficient amount of fluid has been collected and a locking mechanism that automatically activates a pressure compensation system in order to maintain the collected fluid in the same phase in which it was collected.

Single phase capture and conveyance while drilling

An assembly for monitoring load on a drum during an operation in a well with a well access line deployed from the drum that includes multiple line detection mechanisms for acquiring real-time information relative to dynamic characteristics of the lone over the course of the operation. A processor is in communication with the multiple line detection mechanisms and configured to compute the real-time information in light of pre-stored information relative to physical characteristics of the line and the drum. As a result, real-time monitoring of a load on the drum may be achieved. Thus, the operation may be adjusted in real-time as necessary to avoid over-loading of the drum. Additionally, a drum load history may be recorded so as to better account for the true condition of the drum following successive operations.

A drum assembly includes a core having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a first hub coupled to the core adjacent the first end of the core, a second hub coupled to the core adjacent the second end of the core, a first flange releasably coupled to the first hub, the first flange including a body having an inner surface, an outer support structure, and an aperture formed therethrough, and a second flange releasably coupled to the second hub, the second flange including a body having an inner surface, an outer support structure, and an aperture formed therethrough.

Drum assembly and method of assembling the drum assembly

The problems of damage and failure of solenoid valves in high pressure high temperature environments and the problem of difficult repair of solenoid valves are addressed through reduction of the possibility of damage to the ball seat and/or seals and through a modular design to increase the ease of repair and adjustment in the event repair is needed.

A technique involves sampling fluids in a well environment. An expandable packer is constructed with an outer seal layer. At least one sample drain is positioned through the outer seal layer, and a heater element is deployed in the at least one sample drain. In one embodiment, the heater element is deployed proximate a radially outlying surface of the expandable packer. Additionally, a temperature sensor may be positioned proximate the at least one sample drain to monitor temperature in the environment heated by the heater element.

Well fluid sampling system for use in heavy oil environments

A drum assembly for accommodating a well access line. The drum of the assembly may include a core coupled to flanges at either side thereof. The core may be configured to accommodate the well access line thereabout. Additionally, the core may be configured with an inner portion for coupling to the flanges at an arcuate junction therebetween as well as a collar about the inner portion for directly accommodating the well access line in a stable manner.
