A method for detecting abnormal self-discharge in a battery system by monitoring the balancing charge for each cell and a battery system which is configured to use this method are provided. The method makes it possible to predict the probability of the occurrence of a safety-critical state, for example, an internal short circuit, with the result that suitable countermeasures can be taken in good time.

A method is provided for operating a lithium ion battery having at least one lithium ion cell and a heating device, the method includes a step of operating the lithium ion battery in a temperature range between 5 and 90° C. The heating device is designed to operate the lithium ion battery in a temperature range between 5 and 90° C. The lithium ion cell includes an anode, a cathode, a separator, a current collector and an electrolyte. The electrolyte can contain LiBOB as the conducting salt and at least one solvent selected from propylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate; or having LiFSI and/or LiDFOB as the conducting salt and at least one solvent selected from glycol ether and/or DMC; or having LiFSI and/or LiTFSI and/or LiDFOB and/or LiTDI as the conducting salt and at least one solvent selected from imidazolium compounds, pyrrolidinium compounds and piperidinium compounds.

A battery unit for a traction battery of a motor vehicle is provided. The battery unit includes at least two battery cells arranged adjacent to one another, which each include at least one venting unit for venting the cell housing thereof. The venting units are arranged on sides of the battery cells that are facing each other, and at least two shield units are arranged between the sides of the battery cells that face each other and at a distance from one another. Each shield unit includes a shield wall having at least one opening and at least one closure element. The opening of each shield wall is arranged aligned with the venting unit of the battery cell arranged closest to this shield wall in each case. The closure element, in a closing position, in which the closure element closes the opening, is arranged fully against the shield wall and in an open position, in which the closure element at least partially reveals the opening, is at least partially separated from the shield wall. The closure element can be transferred from the closing position into the open position by the action thereon of a force directed in the direction of the other shield unit.

A test device for an electrochemical cell is arranged inside the electrochemical cell in such a way that it is in electrical contact with two current-carrying electrodes of the electrochemical cell. The test device includes a switching device having at least one cathode and one anode partial electrode which are adjacently arranged, but with a space thereinbetween. In an initial state, the switching device is opened such that electrical current cannot flow between the partial electrodes. The switching device is closed in a short-circuit state by bridging the space between the partial electrodes such that an electrical current can flow between the current-carrying electrodes of the electrochemical cell and through the partial electrodes.

An energy store has a plurality of electrical energy storage cells, which are connected electrically in series or parallel and are combined to form an energy storage module. Cooling plates are arranged between the energy storage cells and into which coolant or refrigerant can be introduced. A plurality of emergency switching devices are provided, each of which is associated with an energy storage cell and one or two cooling plates. The emergency switching devices allow the coolant or refrigerant to flow into the associated cooling plates only if a temperature of the associated energy storage cell exceeds a defined limit temperature.
