A gas turbine engine for an aircraft comprises: an engine core comprising a turbine, a compressor, and a core shaft connecting the turbine to the compressor. The gas turbine engine further comprises a core casing surrounding the engine core. The gas turbine engine further comprises a core cowl surrounding the engine core and the core casing. The gas turbine engine further comprises an engine accessory gearbox driven by a take-off from the core shaft. The gas turbine engine further comprises an oil system having one or more oil pumps powered by the engine accessory gearbox for circulating lubricating oil around components of the engine including the engine accessory gearbox, and having an oil tank for receiving and storing oil scavenged from the engine components before recirculation thereto. The gas turbine engine further comprises an oil fill line which extends from the engine accessory gearbox to an inlet port accessible from the core cowl, the oil tank being fillable from the inlet port via the fill line and the engine accessory gearbox.

An oil tank filling system for filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine that includes an aft core cowl. The system includes an oil tank that has an oil tank top and an oil tank bottom and is located within a core of the engine, an oil access port located on the aft core cowl, and an oil tank filling pipe that leads from the oil access port to a tank filling port located at or adjacent the oil tank bottom. The system is configured so that oil that is supplied to the oil access port flows to and into the oil tank using gravitational force. A method of filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine and a gas turbine engine that includes the oil tank filling system.

Oil tank filling system

An oil tank filling system for filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine. The system includes an oil tank located within the core of the engine, an engine oil filling port located on a bifurcation below the core of the engine, and an oil tank filling pipe that leads from the engine oil filling port to a tank filling port on the oil tank. The engine oil filling port is detachably connectable to an off-engine oil pump that when connected to the engine oil filling port and supplied with oil pumps oil into the engine oil filling port and through the oil tank filling pipe to the tank filling port to fill the oil tank. A method of filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine and a gas turbine engine that includes the oil tank filling system are also disclosed.

An oil tank filling system for filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine. The system includes an oil tank located within a core of the engine, an oil filling reservoir located within a bifurcation that extends from the core of the engine, an oil tank filling pipe that leads from the oil filling reservoir to a tank filling port on the oil tank, and an oil pump. The system is configured so that the oil pump pumps oil from the oil filling reservoir through the oil tank filling pipe and the tank filling port to fill the oil tank. A method of filling the oil tank of a gas turbine engine and a gas turbine engine that includes the oil tank filling system are also disclosed.
