Interactive region coloring techniques as implemented by a computing device are described to provide a user with the tactile experience of coloring in a region with digital paint, while at the same time allowing the user to manually fill the region with digital paint with more apparent skill and precision than they may input. For each of multiple pixels on the digital medium, the system obtains one or both of a distance value that indicates a distance to a nearby point (e.g., the closest point) on an outline on the digital medium and a direction value that indicates a direction to the nearby point on the outline. A manner in which the digital paint is applied to the region (e.g., forces affecting paint flow, dynamically adjusting brush size or position) is determined based on one or both of the distance value and the direction value.

Embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods, and computer storage media directed to a drawing application that enables intuitive application of a pressure-sensitive effect to a rendered stroke. Such a drawing application may receive input stroke data along including pressure measurements along a path of the stroke. The drawing application may then map the pressure measurements to respective attribute values for a pressure sensitive stroke attribute. Such a mapping results in a pressure measurement at a predefined level of pressure mapping to a default attribute value, while a pressure measurement above or below the predefined level of pressure would result in an attribute value greater than or less than the default attribute value. The drawing application may then cause a stroke to be rendered on the display in accordance with the attribute values for the pressure sensitive stroke attribute.

Intuitive control of pressure-sensitive stroke attributes

Presentation of cross-platform multimedia content may be controlled by a media player. Cross-platform content may include a two-dimensional (2D) graphics component, a three-dimensional (3D) graphics component, and a video component. Each component may be rendered as a separate layer, and each component may be rendered independently from one another. The multimedia player may synchronize the separate renderings for presentation. In one embodiment, the rendering of at least one of the separate layers may be performed by a hardware resource separate from the hardware resource executing the multimedia player. Each separate layer may be composited for display. In one embodiment, the compositing may be performed by a hardware resource separate from the hardware resource executing the multimedia player.

Independent layered content for hardware-accelerated media playback

Various content may be defined and display in parallel in a scripting environment. The scripting language may not wait for error checking or reporting before proceeding to updating the content definition. In one embodiment, no error checking or reporting may be performed. Content may be defined by setting graphics states while content may be displayed by validating the graphics states and submitting validated states to a GPU. The defining and display of content may be performed asynchronously.

Parallelized definition and display of content in a scripting environment

Image content may be compressed using a plurality of block truncation coding schemes resulting in a plurality of compressed versions of the image content. The plurality of compressed versions may be combined together into a single data structure. Prior to combining the plurality of compressed versions, each compressed version may be further compressed. In one embodiment, a data structure containing a plurality of block truncation encoded format versions of image content may be received. Rendering hardware-compatible block truncation encoded content from the plurality of compressed versions may be determined and provided to rendering hardware. The hardware may then decode the selected one block truncation encoded format for display. In one embodiment, each of the received plurality of block truncation encoded content versions may be further compressed. Before providing the selected version to the hardware for decoding, the further compression may be decompressed.

Compression of image data

Various embodiments of methods and apparatus for performing vector artwork fill rule evaluation over a tessellation are described. In some embodiments the geometric shapes of vector artwork are approximated by line segments, then tessellated into simple convex polygons (i.e. tessellation primitives). Fill rules for geometric primitives of the vector artwork are assigned to edges of the tessellation primitives. In some embodiments, fill rules for boundary edges are evaluated using background state information to assign fill values to tessellation primitives. State information for filled tessellation primitives is used by fill rules to determine fill values for unfilled tessellation primitives. Embodiments may provide detection of conflicting fill rules in the vector artwork, and may perform corrective actions on tessellation primitives.
