An overvoltage protection spark gap assembly includes a first overvoltage protection spark gap () which has a first main terminal (a) and a second main terminal (b); and a second overvoltage protection spark gap (') which has a third main terminal (a′) and a fourth main terminal (b′). The second main terminal (b) and the third main terminal (a′) are electrically connected together. A first electrically conductive probe device (K) is introduced into a wear part () of the first overvoltage protection spark gap () such that, in the event of a specific degree of wear, the first electrically conductive probe device (K) comes electrically into contact with an arc () in the first overvoltage protection spark gap (). The second overvoltage protection spark gap (′) has a second electrically conductive probe device () which comes electrically into contact with an arc in the second overvoltage protection spark gap (′).

Overvoltage protection spark gap assembly and method for operating an overvoltage protection spark gap assembly

The invention relates to an arrangement for firing spark gaps with a trigger electrode which is located at or in one of the main electrodes and which is insulated from this main electrode, wherein the trigger electrode can be electrically connected to a further main electrode via at least one voltage-switching or voltage-monitoring element and there is an air gap between the trigger electrode and the further main electrode, wherein the trigger electrode forms a sandwich structure with an insulating layer and a layer made of a material with lower conductivity than the material of one of the main electrodes. Moreover, the insulating layer is designed as a thin foil or lacquer layer and the layer made of the material of lower conductivity is in contact with one of the main electrodes or rests on it. According to the invention, for discharging energetically weak overvoltage events without response of the spark gap formed between the main electrodes, the insulating layer of the sandwich structure is interrupted outside the firing area and/or an electrical component which influences the response behavior is connected between the trigger electrode and the associated main electrode.

Arrangement for firing spark gaps

The invention relates to a device combination for protecting electrical networks against overvoltages or overcurrents, comprising an essentially U-shaped base and at least one plug-in module, which can be plugged or pushed onto the base, wherein the base has connection terminals for connecting to the respective network and also has plug-in contacts, which are connected to the connection terminals and are complementary to mating plug-in contacts or contact tongues of the plug-in module, and the plug-in module has a housing which accommodates one or more lightning and/or overvoltage arresters, and the mating plug-in contacts or contact tongues pass through a floor side of the housing. According to the invention, means are provided for changing the position and the distance between the plug-in contacts and the mating plug-in contacts or contact tongues, wherein, starting from a working position, with a closed, surge-current-resistant electrical connection, it is possible to select an idle position, in which the plug-in contacts and mating plug-in contacts or contact tongues are located in an isolation/disengagement position.

Device for protecting electrical networks from overvoltages or overcurrents

The invention relates to an overvoltage protection arrangement comprising a horn spark gap located in an insulating housing, with a deionization chamber for arc quenching, wherein the deionization chamber has a plurality of spaced quench plates and a trigger electrode is located in the ignition region of the horn spark gap, wherein a disconnecting device comprises a fusible link that is located in the region of the deionization chamber and is exposed there to a loading of a power follow-on current, wherein the fusible link holds a disconnecting element, preferably supported by spring force, in a first position, and on melting releases this disconnecting element in such a way that the disconnecting element adopts a second position wherein, on reaching the second position, an electrical connection to the trigger electrode is interrupted and the trigger electrode is thereby disconnected.

Over-voltage protection arrangement having a horn gap located in an insulating housing having a deionization chamber for arc extinguishing

The invention relates to an overvoltage protection arrangement consisting of a horn spark gap accommodated in an insulating housing () having a deion chamber. A trigger electrode is located in the ignition area of the horn spark gap. A varistor is also present, electrically connected in series to the horn spark gap. According to the invention, a first and a second disconnection apparatus are formed in the housing, wherein the first disconnection apparatus () is in heat-conducting connection with the varistor and, when a limit temperature is reached or exceeded, releases a spring-loaded slide () which interrupts the series connection between varistor and horn spark gap. Furthermore, the second disconnection apparatus () comprises a fusible conductor which is located inside the deion chamber, for example, and can be exposed there to an arc, wherein the fusible conductor holds a spring-loaded disconnector element () in a first position and releases this disconnector element () when fused as a result of the effects of the arc in such a manner that the disconnector element () adopts a second position, wherein an electrical connection to the trigger electrode is interrupted when the second position is reached. A three-pointed, rotatably mounted star or a circular disc with lugs or prongs is formed in the housing such that a first star point () is carried along by the slide () as it moves to interrupt the series connection. In the same way, a second star point () is carried, as the disconnector element () moves, from the first to the second position, wherein each movement of the star results in a rotation of the star around its axis of rotation () with the consequence that a third point of the star () releases a spring-loaded pivoting lever () which operates a remote signalling contact () and/or a visual fault status display ().
