A lightning detection system is presented. The lightning detection system includes a plurality of sensing devices configured to generate sensor signals representative of one or more working state parameters of an object. The lightning detection system further includes a lightning signal processing subsystem configured to combine the sensor signals representative of the one or more working state parameters received from the plurality of sensing devices to generate a composite signal, extract noise signals from the composite signal, and compare the extracted noise signals with one or more lightning signal profiles to determine existence of lightning noise signals in the extracted noise signals, wherein the lightning noise signals are induced in the sensor signals in response to a lightning strike on the object.

System and method for detecting lightning

An apparatus includes an optical portion disposed on a carrier portion. The optical portion includes an optical path of and a magneto-sensitive element within the optical path. A light source is disposed on the carrier portion in operative communication with a first end of the optical path, and a photo-detector is disposed on the carrier portion in operative communication with a second end of the optical path.

Micro-electromechanical current sensing apparatus

A glass-reinforced fiber or carbon-reinforced wind turbine blade having a suction side and a pressure side includes a tip portion adapted with an electric field control region disposed solely on or within the tip portion. The electric field control region is in electrical communication with or galvanically connected to an electric discharge conduction mechanism, wherein the electric field control region and the electric discharge conduction mechanism together operate to protect a wind turbine and its associated blade(s) from damage due to a lightning strike at the tip of the wind turbine blade(s) by controlling an electric field at the tip portion(s) caused by the lightning strike.

Wind turbine lightning protection system

An integrated measurement system for measuring a plurality of parameters is disclosed. The integrated system includes a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor configured for modulating a wavelength of an FBG input signal to provide an FBG output signal corresponding to an FBG parameter, a fiber Faraday rotator (FFR) sensor module configured for rotating a polarization and modulating an intensity of an FFR input signal to provide an FFR output signal corresponding to an FFR parameter, wherein the FBG sensor and FFR sensor module are coupled to provide an integrated system output signal, and a detection system configured for receiving the integrated system output signal and for using the integrated system output signal to obtain values associated with at least one FBG or FFR parameter.
