A process for generating refrigeration, electricity or work utilizing a sorption system is disclosed. The sorption system includes a sorbent material and a fluid, in which the sorbent material and fluid in combination have a pressure index of at least 1.2.

The present invention relates to the selective separation of hydrogen ('H') hydrocarbons in streams containing both hydrogen and hydrocarbons (e.g. methane, ethylene, ethane, propylene, propane, etc.) utilizing a zeolitic imidazolate framework ('ZIF') material. Preferably, the stream to be separated is fed to the present process in a substantially gaseous phase. In preferred embodiments, the current invention is utilized in either a pressure swing adsorption process, a temperature swing adsorption process, or a membrane separations process to separate hydrogen from hydrocarbons present in hydrogen production streams or petrochemical/petroleum refining product streams and intermediate streams.

Separation of hydrogen from hydrocarbons utilizing zeolitic imidazolate framework materials

A process for the oxidation of hydrocarbons comprises contacting the hydrocarbon with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst comprising a microporous solid support, preferably a zeolite, having from 8- to 12-ring open windows and comprising non-framework metal cations selected from manganese, iron, cobalt, vanadium, chromium, copper, nickel, and ruthenium, and mixtures thereof, providing that the oxygen-containing gas does not contain significant amounts of added hydrogen. The catalyst is novel and forms part of the invention. The process may be used for oxidation of alkanes, cycloalkanes, benzene and alkylbenzenes, and is suitable for use in regioselective terminal oxidation of straight chain alkanes and for selective oxidation/separation of p-dialkylbenzenes from an alkylbenzene mixture, for example, p-xylene from an isomeric mixture of xylenes.

Process and catalyst for oxidation of hydrocarbons

A process for synthesizing the porous crystalline material ITQ-12 is disclosed and employs an organic directing agent having the formula: where n is an integer from 1 to 3 and Qis an anion. The resultant ITQ-12 is useful in as a catalyst in chemical conversion reactions and as an adsorbent for gas separation.

Synthesis of ITQ-12

In a process for producing a para-xylene enriched product from a gaseous mixture comprising at least para-xylene, meta-xylene and ortho-xylene, the gaseous mixture is contacted with an adsorbent capable of selectively adsorbing para-xylene and comprising a crystalline molecular sieve having an average crystal size between about 0.5 micron and about 20 microns. The contacting is conducted at a temperature and pressure such that at least part of the para-xylene in the mixture is adsorbed by the adsorbent to produce a para-xylene-depleted effluent stream. The para-xylene is then desorbed from said adsorbent and collected to form a para-xylene enriched stream. The adsorption and desorption steps are repeated for a plurality of cycles, such that the time between successive contacting steps is no more than 10 seconds.

A porous crystalline material is described having the chabazite framework type and having a composition involving the molar relationship:XO:()YO,wherein X is a trivalent element, such as aluminum, boron, iron, indium, and/or gallium; Y is a tetravalent element such as silicon, tin, titanium and/or germanium; and n is greater than 100 and typically greater than 200, such as about 300 to about 4000, for example from about 400 to about 1200. The material is synthesized in a fluoride medium and exhibits activity and selectivity in the conversion of methanol to lower olefins, especially ethylene and propylene.

The present invention is related to a method for kinetically separating a light hydrocarbon mixture comprising at least two components by preferentially adsorbing a first component on a zeolite adsorbent comprising 8-member rings of tetrahedra as the pore opening controlling hydrocarbon diffusion and alkali metal cations balancing a framework charge, wherein a second component is not preferentially adsorbed. The novel process comprises contacting the light hydrocarbon mixture with a zeolite adsorbent having a SiO/AlOratio greater than about 50 and less than 200 and further having a diffusion rate at least 50 times greater for the first component as compared to the second component, and then recovering at least one of the first component or the second component.
