Embodiments provide techniques, including systems and methods, for locating and navigating to the location of a requestor based on proximity between a requestor device and a provider device. For example, embodiments display proximity indicators to allow a provider to quickly, easily, and safely locate a requestor upon arrival near a request location. Further, in some embodiments, graphics associated with a proximity vector may be presented on a provider communication device to clearly display the navigation directions to the provider so that the provider may easily find their matched requestor without requiring additional communication between the provider and the requestor. Additionally, embodiments provide efficient navigation to riders by limiting display of proximity indicators for navigation until the provider is within a threshold distance to the request location to conserve system resources and communication between an on-demand matching system and the provider computing device.

Navigation using proximity information

Embodiments provide techniques, including systems and methods, for identifying and matching requestors and providers. For example, embodiments can display an identification pattern that is unique for a matched requestor and provider to allow the providers and requestors to quickly, easily, and accurately validate one another's identities prior to a service being provided. In some embodiments, the identification element may be presented on a provider communication device to clearly display graphics associated with an identification element to all requestors in an area so that the requestors may easily identify a matched provider.

Identifying matched requestors and providers

The identification of a user device as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may cause the wireless communication network to implement certain operations. A determination may be made based on one or more behavior characteristics of a user device as to whether the user device is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) instead of an airborne user device carried in a manned aircraft as the user device communicates with a wireless communication network via one or more base stations. In response to determining that the user device is the UAV instead of the airborne user device carried in the manned aircraft, a base station handover threshold for the UAV may be modified to prolong a communication duration of the UAV with a base station when a decrease in signal strength or an increase in signal interference of a signal provided by the base station occurs.

Behavior-based UAV detection for communication networks

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network cell that uses modular communication modems may be configured to support various communication standards and communication frequency bands. An authentication request from a modular communication modem of a plurality of modular communication modems in an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network cell may be received at a core network of a wireless carrier network following an installation of the modular communication modem into the UAV network cell, in response to authenticating that the modular communication modem is authorized to communicate with the core network, the modular communication modem is registered at the core network to handle communication between the UAV network cell and the core network. However, in response to determining that the modular communication modem is not authorized to communicate with the core network, the modular communication modem is disallowed from handling communication between the UAV network cell and the core network.

Embodiments provide techniques, including systems and methods, for improving the accuracy of location information for requestor and provider devices in an dynamic transportation matching system using local communications between computing devices. For example, embodiments allow a provider computing device to identify, pair, and/or communicate with a requestor computing device upon arrival near a request location for a ride matching request. The provider computing device may use signal strength measurements associated with signals received from the requestor computing device to identify a proximity to the requestor computing device and/or to triangulate an accurate location of the requestor computing device. Additionally, the provider computing device may use a combination of the location reported by the ride matching system and the signal strength of the paired connection to identify the location of the requestor computing device.

The identification of a user device as an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) may cause the wireless communication network to implement certain operations. A user device communicating with a wireless communication network may be determined to be an UAV based on one or more behavior characteristics of the user device. Accordingly, a base station handover threshold for the UAV may be modified to prolong a communication duration of the UAV with a base station when a decrease in signal strength or an increase in signal interference of a signal provided by the base station occurs. The base station handover threshold is a threshold for determining when to handover communication between the UAV and the wireless communication network from the base station to an additional base station. The modification of base station handover threshold reduces a handover rate of the UAV between multiple base stations of the wireless communication network.

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) network cell that uses modular communication modems may be configured to support various communication standards and communication frequency bands. A UAV communication controller may monitor a signal robustness value for a communication frequency band that a UAV network cell is using for a relay backhaul with a ground network cell of a wireless carrier network. In response to determining that the signal robustness value of the communication frequency band has dropped below a predetermined threshold, the UAV communication controller may command the UAV network cell to use an additional communication frequency band that is different from the communication frequency band to carry at least one portion of backhaul communication with the wireless carrier network.

Continuous communication during network handovers may ensure the sending and receiving of mission-critical data by applications is performed without interruption using multiple communication networks. A request from an application to establish a communication session with an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) core of a wireless carrier network for routing communication traffic to the IMS core may be received. Subsequently, an access point name (APN) designated by an APN parameter of the application may be determined. Accordingly, in response to a determination that the APN parameter designates a continuous link APN, the communication traffic may be routed via a communication session that seamlessly switches between a continuous link APN bearer on a radio access network of the wireless carrier network and a continuous link APN tunnel on a remote network that connects to an Evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG) of the wireless carrier network.

A coverage model is generated to forecast network coverage robustness for vertically layered 3-dimensional sections of airspace above an area. Network configuration data for multiple base stations of a wireless communication network located in an area are received. Environmental data that includes information on natural and manmade features in the area are received. The airspace above the area into a plurality of vertically layered 3-dimensional sections is segregated. A coverage model is generated based at least on the network configuration data and the environmental data for predicting network coverage of the wireless communication network in the 3-dimensional sections in the airspace above the area.
