Introduced here is a digital pill comprised of a capsule, an ingestible sensor, and a slot antenna. The ingestible sensor can be configured to generate a signal indicative of a characteristic of the living body in which the digital pill is located. Biometric data can be stored, at least temporarily, in a memory in the form of signal values. For example, the slot antenna may transmit biometric data to a computing device across a network on a periodic basis (e.g., every 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 60 minutes, etc.). Alternatively, the slot antenna may stream biometric data to a computing device across the network in real time.

The present disclosure relates to computerized systems and methods for determining the location and orientation of implanted devices. Consistent with some embodiments, power levels of near-field signals are backscattered from an implanted device. The backscattered near-field signals may be detected by an ex-vivo antenna array. The determined power levels may be used to identify candidate location and orientation combinations based on a data set. The data set may be generated by calibrating the antenna array to the implanted device. A candidate location and orientation combination among the identified candidate combinations may be selected as the location and orientation of the implanted device.

Systems and methods for determining the location and orientation of implanted devices

A reader device includes an array of antenna coils configured to electromagnetically couple with devices implanted beneath or within skin of a human body. An implanted device can include a loop antenna or other means configured to couple with at least one antenna coil of the reader device to receive radio frequency energy from and transmit radio frequency transmissions to the reader device. The antenna coil array is configured to mount to the skin surface to improve the coupling between the implanted device and coils of the array. Further, the reader device is configured to select one or more antenna coils of the array and to operate the selected antenna coil to communicate, via radio frequency transmissions, with and/or provide radio frequency power to the implanted device. An antenna coil of the array can be selected based on a detected amount of coupling with the implanted device.

Systems and methods are provided for neuro stimulation. In one implementation, a system is provided that includes a stimulator introduced into tissue at a target location and a central controller that communicates wirelessly with the stimulator. The stimulator includes a power system that receives wireless energy transmission, and an electrode system that transmits an electrical pulse for stimulating the target location. The central controller includes a power system that wirelessly delivers power to the stimulator, a communication system that wirelessly communicates with the stimulator, and a processing system that controls the power system and the communication system. The central controller may instruct the stimulator to transmit one or more electrical pulses to the target location to affect an endocrine function (e.g., affect the glucose level of a patient).

Systems and methods for peripheral nervous stimulation for metabolic and endocrine function

Examples of implantable devices having a hermetically-sealed, metal container are disclosed. In one example, the implantable device has a Bluetooth Low Energy ('BLE') beacon inside the hermetically-sealed, metal container. The hermetically-sealed, metal container may have a micro-strip type transmission line on an internal side of the container such that the container acts as the ground plane of the micro-strip transmission line. A slot at a specific location and having specific characteristics (such as shape, length, and/or width) may be cut into the ground plane of the micro-strip to act as a radiator. Thus, the size of implantable devices can be reduced by using a slot antenna in the hermetically-sealed, metal container. Such a device implanted in a suitable location and at a suitable depth in a user can communicate with an external computing device, such as a smartphone held in the user's hand.

Slot antenna for in-body ISM-band communication

Systems are provided for a wireless system-on-chip (SoC) with integrated antenna, power harvesting, and biosensors. An illustrative SoC can have a dimension of 200 &#x3bc;m&#xd7;200 &#x3bc;m&#xd7;100 &#x3bc;m to allow painless injection. Such small device size is enabled by: a 13 &#x3bc;m&#xd7;20 &#x3bc;m 1 nA current reference, optical clock recovery, low voltage inverting dc-dc to enable use of higher quantum efficiency diodes, on-chip resonant antenna, and an array-scanning reader.

System of injectable fully-monolithic wireless bio-sensing

Systems and methods are described that relate to measuring relative positions of, or distance between, a helmet-mountable device and a head-mountable device. The helmet-mountable device includes a radio frequency (RF) source of a millimeter wave signal comprising millimeter wave radiation. The head-mountable device includes a plurality of rectenna devices. Each rectenna device of the plurality of rectenna devices converts millimeter wave radiation emitted by the RF source into a direct current (DC) electrical signal. The head-mountable device includes a memory and at least one processor. The at least one processor executes instructions stored in the memory so as to carry out operations, which include receiving, from each rectenna device of the plurality of rectenna devices, a respective DC electrical signal. The operations also include storing, in the memory, information indicative of the respective DC electrical signals.

Millimeter wave sensor system

The present disclosure is related to a microchip apparatus, where the microchip apparatus comprises a plurality of metallic layers. Each of the metallic layers may have a respective layer thickness. The microchip apparatus also comprises electronic components integrated within the metallic layers. The electronic components may be configured to communicate data. Further, the electronic components include an antenna feed. The microchip apparatus includes an antenna coupled to the antenna feed. The antenna includes multiple loops, each loop being formed by at least one layer of the metallic layers.

Integrated on-chip antenna

A reader device includes an array of antenna coils configured to electromagnetically couple with devices implanted beneath or within skin of a human body. An implanted device can include a loop antenna or other means configured to couple with at least one antenna coil of the reader device to receive radio frequency energy from the reader device. The antenna coil array is configured to mount to the skin surface to improve the coupling between the implanted device and coils of the array. Further, the reader device is configured to select two or more antenna coils of the array and to operate the selected antenna coils to emit radio frequency power at respective amplitudes and relative phases to provide radio frequency power to the implanted device while increasing efficiency of the power transfer and reducing the exposure of the skin to radio frequency energy.
