Disclosed is a gradient proportioning valve for liquid chromatography that includes a plurality of inlet ports configured to receive a plurality of fluids, a manifold connected to each of the plurality of inlet ports configured to mix the plurality of fluids in a controlled manner to provide a fluid composition, the manifold including a plurality of conduits internal to the manifold, each of the plurality of conduits receiving fluid through a respective one of the plurality of inlet ports, an actuation mechanism having a piston located within a bored structure surrounding the piston, the actuation mechanism configured to open and close at least one of the plurality of conduits in a controlled manner where the piston and the bored structure have a tight tolerance configured to create a fluid tight seal, and a common outlet port configured to receive the fluid composition.

Described is a method for regulating a volume of liquid delivered by a peristaltic pump and a peristaltic pump system that can be used to perform the method. The method includes sensing an ambient temperature of the peristaltic pump. The peristaltic pump includes a pump motor. At least one of a motor speed and a motor operation duration is determined from the sensed temperature, a selected volume of liquid to be delivered and a predetermined correspondence of the motor speed to ambient temperature. The pump motor is operated at the determined motor speed or for the determined motor operation duration to deliver the selected volume of liquid from the peristaltic pump.

Described is an active check valve that uses electro-magnetic actuation for operation. The valve includes a plunger assembly having a magnet in a sealed internal volume. The plunger assembly further includes a plunger tip that extends from either a plunger assembly housing or a sealing member. Although the plunger assembly is disposed in the solvent flow, the magnet is not exposed to the solvent. When the valve is actuated, the plunger tip moves the sealing member to open or close the valve. Optionally, an arming force may be applied to the sealing member in advance of opening or closing to reduce the subsequent additional force necessary to move the sealing member during opening or closing, thereby improving the accuracy of the solvent composition in liquid chromatography system applications.

A continuous flow mixer for use in a chromatography system includes a first channel structure located between a mixer inlet and a mixer outlet. The first channel structure includes a first inlet branch, a second inlet branch, a plurality of outlet branches including at least a first outlet branch and a second outlet branch, a first plurality of branches splitting from the first inlet branch, each branch of the first plurality of branches connected to a different of the plurality of outlet branches, and a second plurality of branches splitting from the second inlet branch, each branch of the second plurality of branches connected to a different of the plurality of outlet branches. At least two branches of the first and second plurality of branches that are connected to the first outlet branch are offset in fluid residence time through the at least two branches.
