A liquid ring fluid flow machine is presented. The machine includes a stationary annular housing having an outer surface and an inner surface. The inner surface defines a chamber that is arranged to receive a liquid. A rotor having a core and a plurality of radially extending vanes is eccentrically rotatably mounted within the chamber for directing the liquid into a recirculating liquid ring in proximity to the inner surface of the housing within the chamber. The inner surface of the housing that is in contact with the recirculating liquid ring is covered by a hydrophobic coating. The machine further includes a first supply pipe and a second supply pipe, each in fluid communication with the chamber.

Liquid ring fluid flow machine

A liquid ring turbine has a casing defining an interior chamber with a symmetry axis. A shaft, having an axis substantially parallel to the symmetry axis, is eccentrically positioned to the symmetry axis. An impeller is coupled to the shaft and is configured to rotate in a first direction. The impeller includes a plurality of vanes extending away from the shaft in a second direction at least partially opposite the first direction. The impeller rotates within a liquid ring enclosed in the casing such that a plurality of expansion chambers are defined. Each expansion chamber is defined between adjacent vanes and the liquid ring. A gas inlet port is in fluid communication with a first expansion chamber defining a first volume. A gas outlet port is in fluid communication with a second expansion chamber. The second expansion chamber defines a second volume that is greater than the first volume.

Liquid ring turbine and method of use

A combustion system is presented. The combustion system includes a hollow combustion chamber having a chamber head, chamber sidewalls, and a chamber bottom. Further, the combustion system includes a fuel injector coupled to the combustion chamber and configured to introduce a plurality of fuel droplets in the combustion chamber. Moreover, the combustion system includes a first electrode and a second electrode disposed on or about the combustion chamber such that an electromagnetic field is generated between the first electrode and the second electrode in response to an applied electric signal, and where the electromagnetic field is configured to control a trajectory of the plurality of fuel droplets within the combustion chamber.

Systems and methods for improved combustion

Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems and methods are provided. In one embodiment, a method for controlling an engine includes providing a first EGR gas flow to an intake manifold of the engine by closing a first EGR valve or a second EGR valve and at least partially opening the other of the first EGR valve and the second EGR valve, wherein the first and second EGR valves are respectively positioned in first and second EGR passages respectively coupled between first and second donor cylinder groups and an intake manifold, and providing a second EGR gas flow that is higher than the first EGR gas flow to the intake manifold by fully opening the first EGR valve or the second EGR valve and at least partially opening the other of the first EGR valve and the second EGR valve.

Systems and methods for controlling exhaust gas recirculation

A diesel engine system includes a cylinder, an exhaust manifold, an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) manifold, and a valve. The exhaust manifold is fluidly coupled with the cylinder and directs exhaust generated in the cylinder to an exhaust outlet that delivers the exhaust to an external atmosphere. The EGR manifold is fluidly coupled with the cylinder and recirculates the exhaust generated in the cylinder back to the cylinder as at least part of intake air that is received by the cylinder. The valve is disposed between the cylinder and the exhaust manifold and between the cylinder and the EGR manifold. The valve has a donating mode and a non-donating mode. The valve fluidly couples the cylinder with the EGR manifold when the valve is in the donating mode and fluidly couples the cylinder with the exhaust manifold when the valve is in the non-donating mode.
