The present disclosure generally relates to fluid control valves for delivering and/or aspirating fluid during ophthalmic surgeries and procedures. In one embodiment, a valve assembly includes a first portion configured to fluidly couple with a gas supply line and a second portion configured to fluidly couple with a liquid supply line and an infusion line. The first portion and the second portion are partitioned or separated from each other by a filter having a hydrophobic membrane configured to prevent the flow of liquids therethrough while allowing the free flow of gas. Accordingly, an infusion liquid may be flown through the second portion while gases may be simultaneously aspirated through the first portion, without any liquids travelling into the gas supply line. The gas supply line may thus be utilized to vent or purge gases from the infusion line before or during performance of surgical procedures.

Automatic infusion valve

An ophthalmic surgical system includes a robotic arm disposed above a patient's eye. A positioning camera is disposed on the robotic arm and positioned to visualize the patient's eye. A processor is electrically coupled to the positioning camera. The processor is configured to receive an indication of a position of the robotic arm relative to a fixed datum, determine a focal length between the positioning camera and the patient's eye, compare the focal length to the position of the robotic arm, and determine a patient eye level relative to the fixed datum.

Method and system for automation of patient eye level

Ophthalmic surgical systems and methods for displaying graphical user interfaces in ophthalmic surgical systems are disclosed. An example ophthalmic surgical system has alternative setup conditions, and a host computer is configured to detect the setup condition and to display on a display screen a graphical user interface corresponding to the detected setup condition. The alternative setup conditions may be based upon a configuration of an ophthalmic surgical console and/or based upon which type of fluidics cassette is installed on the ophthalmic surgical console. In some embodiments, the host computer is configured to display on the display screen a graphical user interface that graphically indicates the instrument ports that are available and/or that are not available for instrument connections in the detected setup condition.

Ophthalmic surgical systems with graphical user interfaces based upon setup conditions

A surgical console has a receptacle for receiving a surgical fluidics cassette. The receptacle has a light source that transmits light to light pipes in the surgical fluidics cassette. The light pipes transmit light to a light transmissive optical interface surrounded by an opaque frame in the surgical fluidics cassette. The opaque frame is located at a fluid level detection system in the cassette. The system illuminates fluidic connectors on the surgical fluidics cassette without interfering with the fluid level detection system of a surgical console.

Cassette annunciation

The present disclosure provides a capsulotomy device having a unique insertion sleeve configuration comprising beveling and two notches at the distal end of the insertion sleeve. The unique configuration assures that the motion the capsulotomy loop comprising the heating element goes through during deployment from and retraction into the insertion sleeve is minimized and predictable.

Enhancing performance of a capsulotomy device

In various embodiments, a device for delivering pressurized irrigation may include a squeeze plate and a pressure sensor module. The squeeze plate may move relative to the pressure sensor module to apply pressure to a flexible container (e.g., a bag of irrigation fluid) between the squeeze plate and the pressure sensor module. The pressure sensor module may include a pressure sensor to measure a force exerted on the pressure sensor module by the flexible container as pressure is applied to the flexible container from the squeeze plate. In some embodiments, the pressure sensor module may include a bag contact plate and the pressure sensor may measure a force exerted on the bag contact plate by the flexible container located between the bag contact plate and the squeeze plate. In some embodiments, the pressure sensor may sense a pressure associated with the flexible container without an intervening bag contact plate.

Systems and methods for external pressure sensing

A tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece. The tip assembly has an inner connector and an outer cap. The outer cap contains an external thread for attaching the tip assembly to a handpiece. The inner housing contains an alignment tab and fits within the outer cap so as to allow rotation of the inner connector within the outer cap. The inner and outer liquefaction tip tubes are frictionally fit into a bore in the inner connector. The proximal end of the inner housing contains a gasket that seal the inner housing against the handpiece.

Tip assembly

A tip assembly for a liquefaction surgical handpiece having a break-away or frangible tip protector. The tip protector protects the delicate tip from damage during handling and shipment, but is easily removed prior to use.

Handpiece tip assembly

A tip for a surgical handpiece having two coaxial tubes or channels mounted within a body. The tip has one or more features that shape the fluid discharge so as to optimize the performance of the handpiece for varying parts of the surgical procedure.

Handpiece tip

A surgical handpiece having a tip with at least two coaxially spaced electrically conductive tubes. The tubes are separated by an electrical insulator. The interior of the inner tube is used for aspiration of liquefied tissue. The outer tube is surrounded by a soft irrigation sleeve that forms an irrigation fluid path. The distal portion of the interior tube terminates inside of the outer tube so as to form a boiling region. Surgical fluid from the irrigation fluid path can enter the boiling region through a hole or port in the outer tube. Electrical current is passed between the inner and outer tube to rapidly boil any surgical fluid in the boiling region. The boiling fluid rapidly expands out of the ring between the tube ends and forces hot fluid to contact the targeted tissue, thereby liquefying the tissue and allowing the tissue to be aspirated. Such a construction allows the boiling chamber to be self-priming and operate even if the outer tube is occluded with material.

Surgical handpiece tip

A container for delivery of a surgical fluid to a surgical handpiece is disclosed. The container includes a volume for receiving the surgical fluid to be delivered to the handpiece and an end for removably engaging a receptacle in a surgical console and for fluidly coupling with a source of pressurized fluid in a surgical console.

Container for delivery of fluid to ophthalmic surgical handpiece

An apparatus for delivery of a surgical fluid to a surgical handpiece is disclosed. The apparatus generally includes a container and an adapter receiving one end of the container. The container holds the surgical fluid to be delivered to the handpiece. The adapter is for removably engaging a receptacle in a surgical console and for fluidly coupling with a source of pressurized fluid in a surgical console.
