A projection system having a controller and a plurality of reflective SLMs operatively coupled to the controller to receive image data from the controller. The reflective SLMs arc aligned in series to receive light form a light source and to reflect imaging light correlated to the image data.

DMD-based image display systems

Apparatus and techniques for enhancing characteristics of electronic projection systems are detailed. Included among the techniques are both superimposition of sub-images and tiling of superimposed images, the combination of which can be advantageous in improving resolution of projected images. Pre-modulators and polarizing beam splitters also may be used as parts of the innovative systems.

Apparatus and techniques for enhancing the dynamic range of electronic projection systems are detailed. Included among the techniques are pre-modulation, luminance compensation, and partial luminance compensation.

Equipment and techniques for increasing the dynamic range of a projection system

Addressed herein are techniques and equipment for pre-processing digital images to be superimposed for display. Filtering, re-sampling, and decimation are variously used to process images and sub-images to produce to-be-superimposed images. One of the described techniques is designed primarily (although not necessarily exclusively) for computational efficiency, while the other sacrifices some computational efficiency for higher quality of output images.

Processing techniques for superimposing images for image projection

Systems and techniques relating to creating motion pictures are described. Included as part of the system are cameras incorporating two taking lenses, one of which images onto film through a shutter and the other of which images onto a digital sensor.

Hybrid stereoscopic motion picture camera with film and digital sensor

An electronic projector has a projection system that includes a spatial light modulator (SLM) for importing image information to the projected light beam. The light beam leaving the SLM is prepolarized in a defined orientation and the projected light is polarized in the same orientation so as to effectively block any light that has been scattered within the projector and become depolarized. The SLM may be a digital mirror device (DMD). Reflective surfaces within the projector may be covered or coated with material that alters the polarization of reflected stray light from the defined orientation or depolarizes the reflected stray light.

Image projection system

A color changer for use with a wide angle light source which includes a frame, a plurality of planar dichroic filter strips mounted on the frame and aligned substantially parallel to each other. The filter strips have identical predetermined optical filtering characteristics with first and second sets of the filter strips movable along a common axis so as to vary the gap between them and at least alternate ones of the filter strips in each of the first and second sets set at an angle such that, when the color changer is positioned in a beam of light transmitted from the wide angle light source, a substantially constant angle of incidence is maintained with respect to light from the light source incident on the alternate ones of the dichroic filter strips.
