A Gigabit Ethernet-based passive optical network that can reliably transmit data is disclosed. The network includes an OLT for receiving a public key through a transmission medium, encrypting a secret key by means of the received public key, transmitting the encrypted secret key, encrypting data by means of the secret key, and transmitting the encrypted data, the OLT being located in a service provider-side. The network also includes an ONT for transmitting the public key to the OLT, receiving the secret key transmitted from the OLT, decrypting the secret key by means of a private key, receiving the data, and decrypting the received data by means of the decrypted the secret key. The public key is used for encrypting the secret key. The secret key is encrypted by means of the public key. The data is encrypted by the OLT by means of the secret key.

Gigabit Ethernet-based passive optical network and data encryption method

A high speed optical routing apparatus and method, in which data traffic, such as an IP packet, an Ethernet frame, etc., is switched in an optical frame unit at a high speed. The apparatus is provided with a plurality of input and output ports, and with one add port for adding data received from a lower IP router, and one drop port for dropping processed data toward the lower IP router. A header wavelength dividing unit extracts the header wavelength signals from among input optical signals inputted through the input ports and the add port. The header wavelength signals contain header information on data wavelength signals contained in the input optical signals. An optical signal inputting section demultiplexes optical signals having the data signals according to the wavelength, and for dividing and inputting the wavelength-based demultiplexed data wavelength signals according to a frame. The data wavelength signals are divided with the header wavelength signals through the header wavelength dividing section, an optical switch for switching the frame-based divided optical signals outputted from the optical signal inputting, an optical signal outputting section for combining the frame-based divided optical signals switched and outputted at the optical switch, for wavelength-multiplexing the combined optical signals into one output optical signal and for outputting the multiplexed output optical signal, a controlling section for controlling the optical signal inputting section, the optical switch and the optical signal outputting section.

High speed optical routing apparatus and method

An optical multi-ring network for burst data communication is disclosed. The multi-ring network includes a plurality of optical single-ring networks having a plurality of optical add/drop routers connected with each other through fiber links, and a core optical router for supporting communication between the optical single-ring networks. The core optical router includes a wavelength division demultiplexing section for demultiplexing optical signals received from the each single-ring network and outputting the demultiplexed optical signals as channels whose wavelengths are different from each other; a branching section for branching off and outputting a portion of each channel; and a switching section for switching each channel to a path directed to the destination of each channel according to a first control signal. The core optical router also includes a contention resolution block for aligning channels in a chronological order, which are output at the switching section and directed to identical destinations, according to a second control signal; a wavelength division multiplexing section for collecting channels which pass through the contention resolution block according to destination and outputting the collected channels as multiplexed optical signals; and a controller for recognizing a destination of each branched channel input from the branching section and outputting a third control signal to the switching section and the contention resolution block so as to a low each channel to be directed to the destination of each channel. A frame transmitted on the multi-ring network includes a burst datum consisting of a plurality of packet data, and a header datum indicating a destination of the burst datum.

Optical multi-ring network for burst data communication

Disclosed is an optical ring network for burst data communication having a plurality of core nodes connected with each other through fiber links. Each core node comprises a demultiplexer for demultiplexing a received optical signal into a plurality of channels by wavelength, an add/drop section for dropping channels selected from the plurality of channels based on a control signal, a multiplexer for multiplexing and outputting the plurality of channels inputted through the add/drop section, a branching section arranged between the demultiplexer and the add/drop section for branching off channel portions from each channel, and a controller for recognizing destinations for frames with each channel modulated and outputting the control signal for dropping the selected channels to the add/drop section.

Optical ring network for burst data communication

Disclosed is a wavelength division multiplexing optical switching system, which is connected with a plurality of nodes of an optical network and supports communication between the nodes. The optical switching system includes a wavelength division demultiplexing unit which demultiplexes optical signals received from each of the plurality of nodes and outputs them as channels with different wavelengths. A routing unit which classifies the channels in accordance with destinations thereof. A fixed wavelength converting unit which converts the classified channels into channels of a single wavelength, the single wavelength being allocated in accordance with corresponding starting places. A wavelength division multiplexing unit which collects the wavelength-converted channels in accordance with destinations and then outputs them as multiplexed optical signals.

Wavelength division multiplexing optical switching system

A wideband erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier is disposed among an optical fiber through which a first and second band-band optical signals (for example, the C-band and L-band) are transmitted and forms a first optical path and a second optical path parallel to each other. The wideband erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier comprising a first amplifying section disposed on the first optical path, including a first erbium-doped optical fiber to amplify the first-band optical signals, a filter to gain-flatten the amplified first-band optical signals, wherein a reflected portion of the first band optical signal by the filter is directed to the second optical path; and a second amplifying section disposed on the second optical path, having a second erbium-doped optical fiber to amplify received second-band optical signals, wherein the reflected first-band optical signal is used to pump the second erbium-doped optical fiber.

A bidirectional WDM self-healing ring network is provided and includes an outer ring network and an inner network for processing N units of optical signals and for performing a protection switching by using the outer ring network when the inner ring network suffers a link failure.
