A method for configuring a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) within a Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN) and a wireless communication system supporting the same are provided. A dual-mode terminal is used as a relay for relaying between the WMAN and the WLAN and the relay divides a total service period into a WMAN period and a WLAN period. For the WMAN period, the relay accesses the WMAN and implements a WMAN service and for the WLAN period, it accesses the WLAN and implements a WLAN service.

Provided is a method and apparatus for decreasing a handover latency time using a context exchange between a mobile terminal (MT) and a Media Independent Handover Server (MIHS). The method used by the MT for decreasing handover latency between a first network and a second network includes when a handover is performed from the first network to the second network, transmitting to the MIHS information required for first network communication as context; and when a handover is performed from the second network to the first network, receiving from the MIHS first network access information comprising the context through the currently used second network. Accordingly, the MT can reduce a Vertical Handover (VHO) latency time and simultaneously consume almost the same power as a single mode terminal.

Method and apparatus decreasing handover latency in heterogeneous networks

A handoff system and method between different kinds of devices, an SIP server and an application method of the SIP server applied thereto. The handoff system between different kinds of devices includes a plurality of devices; a SIP server which requests a routing path update when a handoff request signal is input from a source device among the plurality devices, and getting a target device to participate in a current session; and a gateway which updates a predetermined routing path when a request signal for the routing path update is input, and transmitting data to the source device and the target device via the updated routing path.

Disclosed are a handoff system and a method among heterogeneous networks. The handoff system among heterogeneous networks has plural access nodes which supports wireless communication with a mobile terminal; and a crossover node which selects resources of an access node to which a handoff is made without repetitive communications between access modes and the mobile terminal in selecting an access node. The handoff system performs a handoff to a network if resources of the network are sufficient for wireless communication.
