A Plasma Display Panel (PDP) with improved luminous efficiency includes: a rear substrate; a front substrate facing the rear substrate; a plurality of barrier ribs interposed between the front and rear substrates and partitioning a plurality of discharge cells; a plurality of sustain electrode pairs arranged separate from each other on the front substrate facing the rear substrate, each pair of sustain electrodes including an X electrode and an Y electrode; and a front dielectric layer covering the sustain electrode pairs and having at least two grooves in each of the discharge cells; a distance between the X and Y electrodes of each sustain electrode pair is greater than a height of the barrier ribs.

A plasma display panel is provided. The plasma display panel comprises a plurality of first electrodes and a plurality of second electrodes; wherein the first electrodes and the second electrodes cross at a discharge space; wherein prominent electrodes and formed at a portion o the first electrodes where the first electrodes cross with the second electrodes to extend the area of the address electrodes so that a stable address discharge may occur, and vertical centers of the prominent electrodes are asymmetrical with respect to vertical centers of the discharge spaces, which may be coated with red, green and blue fluorescent layers.

Plasma display panel having electrodes arranged within barrier ribs

A structure of barrier ribs of a plasma display panel (PDP) which reduces noise and vibration generated when operating the PDP as well as easily performs a test to find defective barrier ribs during manufacturing the PDP, and a PDP including the barrier ribs are disclosed. In one embodiment, the barrier ribs include: i) main barrier ribs partitioning display discharge cells disposed in a display region at which an image is displayed, ii) first dummy barrier ribs disposed adjacent to the display discharge cells in a non-display region at which an image is not displayed, partitioning first non-display discharge cells having the same structure as the display discharge cells and iii) second dummy barrier ribs disposed adjacent to the first non-display discharge cells in a non-display region partitioning second non-display discharge cells having a different structure from the display discharge cells.

Structure of barrier ribs for plasma display panel and plasma display panel having the same

A plasma display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate disposed opposite to each other and having a plurality of discharge spaces therebetween forming a display region for implementing images. Display electrodes are provided in lateral sides of the discharge spaces and extend in a first direction. Address electrodes extend in a second direction crossing the display electrodes. A dummy cell region and a frit region are provided outside of the display region. The frit region includes a first frit formed on a periphery of the first substrate, a second frit formed on a periphery of the second substrate, a dielectric layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate and covering the display electrodes, and electrode terminals drawn out from the display electrodes to an edge of the first substrate and the second substrate.

A plasma display panel includes first and second substrates opposing one another. Address electrodes are formed on the first substrate in a first direction. Barrier ribs are mounted between the first and second substrates defining non-discharge regions and discharge cells, and phosphor layers are formed within the discharge cells. Discharge sustain electrodes are formed on the second substrate in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction. The non-discharge regions are formed in areas encompassed by discharge cell abscissas and ordinates that pass through centers of adjacent discharge cells. The discharge sustain electrodes include bus electrodes that extend such that a pair of the bus electrodes is provided for each of the discharge cells, and protrusion electrodes formed extending from each of the bus electrodes such that a pair of opposing protrusion electrodes is formed in each discharge cell. Also, a predetermined angle is formed between proximal ends of the protrusion electrodes and inner surfaces of the barrier ribs opposing the proximal ends.

Embodiments of the present invention offer an improved PDP that offers a lowered discharge initiation voltage as well as improved efficiency of discharge. The PDP may satisfy the equation 180&#x2266;(A+B)+P&#xd7;0.1&#x2266;240 in which A is a distance between opposite recessed portion of a pair of a first electrode and a second electrode; it is a distance between opposite projection portions of the pair of the first electrode and the second electrode, and P is a gas pressure of a discharge gas contained in the discharge space. In another embodiment a gas pressure of a gas trapped in a discharge space (e.g., 'cell' or 'discharge cell') may be over 450 Torr. Additionally, each opposing end of the first electrode and the second electrode may include a recessed portion and a projection portion such that a gap interposed between the opposing end portions varies in width.

The PDP comprises: a pair of substrates including a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other; a barrier rib located between the first substrate and the second substrate, and defining discharge, together with the first and second substrates, cells where gas discharge is generated; a plurality of discharge electrodes comprising first discharge electrodes and second discharge electrodes, surrounding the discharge cell vertically spaced in the barrier rib, for generating a gas discharge by mutual actions; and a first phosphor layer and a second phosphor layer located in the discharge cell formed in the first substrate and in the discharge cell formed in the second substrate, respectively.

A plasma display panel comprising a first substrate and a second substrate with a first dielectric layer formed on a surface of the first substrate and a second dielectric layer formed on a surface of the second substrate. A plurality of barrier ribs are interposed between the first and second substrates to provide a discharge space and a non-discharge space. A protection layer comprising MgO is formed on an area of the second dielectric layer over the discharge space, and an exothermal inhibition layer is formed on an area of the second dielectric layer over the non-discharge space. The protection layer may also be comprised of MgO and an exothermal inhibition material.
