A technique includes, in a pre-operating system environment of a computer system, a hardware processor of the computer system executing machine executable instructions to determine whether a sanitization option was selected in a prior operating system environment of the computer system. In response to determining that the sanitization option was selected, the hardware processor executes the instructions in the pre-operating system environment to determine, for an adapter of the computer system, a storage inventory associated with the adapter and sanitize the storage inventory.

Pre-operating system environment-based sanitization of storage devices

In some examples, a system receives an update image including a first device driver to execute in a pre-operating system (pre-OS) environment of the system, and detects a second device driver that is already in the system. The system accesses a pre-stored dynamically configurable policy in the system, the pre-stored dynamically configurable policy relating to selection from among device drivers in the pre-OS environment, and determines, based on the pre-stored dynamically configurable policy, an action to take in response to the update image.

Example implementations relate to obtaining information about and indicating a state of a storage device. In example implementations, an indication that a storage device is rebuilding address mappings may be received, and how much progress has been made in the rebuilding may be determined. A representation of the progress made in the rebuilding may be displayed.

A boot process for a computing device including storage including an extensible firmware interface aware operating system is started. The storage is searched for a boot loader associated with the extensible firmware interface aware operating system.

Booting computing devices with EFI aware operating systems

Example embodiments relate to storage devices, computing devices, and machine-readable storage media that optimize storage device operating parameters for desktop and notebook computing devices. Example embodiments allow for optimization of operating parameters of a storage device for one of a desktop computing device and a notebook computing devices based on provision of a command to the storage device. In example embodiments, upon receipt of such a command, the storage device may reconfigure its operating parameters to be optimized for the particular type of system.
