A handheld surgical instrument having a handpiece and a shaft extending from the handpiece is provided. The instrument includes a cutting implement disposed at a distal end of the shaft and an articulation portion disposed proximate to the cutting implement. The articulation portion includes a set of first slits and a set of second slits opposite the first set of slits. The articulation portion also has first and second passageways disposed in the slits along with first and second flat pull wires disposed in the passageways. The instrument also has an articulation control assembly that includes an articulator having first and second anchor points coupled with the first and second flat pull wires. The articulator moves the first flat pull wire in a first direction and moves the second flat pull wire in a second direction opposite the first direction during actuation.

Monitoring vital parameters of a wearer of a compression garment by analyzing a pressure signal waveform indicative of a fluid pressure in an inflatable and deflatable bladder of the compression garment. Analyzing the pressure signal waveform for an oscillating amplitude as a function of time and/or a representation of a pulse of the wearer provides an indication of blood pressure of the wearer.

Monitoring vital parameters of a compression garment wearer

Determining whether a compression garment is worn by a wearer of the garment by analyzing a pressure signal waveform indicative of a fluid pressure in an inflatable and deflatable bladder of the compression garment. Variance detected in the pressure signal waveform during the analysis is indicative of a change in condition of the compression garment. In one aspect the change in condition is verified using confirmatory analysis. In another aspect, the variance is one of a pressure rise and a pressure impulse. In yet another aspect, the variance is an oscillating amplitude as a function of time representative of a pulse of the wearer.

Compression garment compliance

A compression device controller for use with a compression garment includes a pressurized fluid source (e.g., a pump), a manifold in fluid communication with the pressurized fluid source, a pressure sensor in communication with the manifold, at least two bladder ports, and at least two two-way valves. The pressure sensor is arranged to measure a signal representative of pressure in the manifold. Each bladder port is connectable in fluid communication to a respective inflatable bladder of the compression garment. Each two-way valve is in fluid communication with the manifold and with a respective bladder port. Each two-way valve is actuatable to control fluid communication between the manifold and the respective bladder port.

Compression garment inflation

A test inflation cycle of fluid flow is controlled from a fluid source to each inflatable bladder of a plurality of inflatable bladders of a compression garment. Pressure signals from at least one pressure sensor are received and compared to one or more reference pressure values. One or more inflation parameters of at least one of the inflatable bladders is set based at least in part on the comparison of the pressure signals, and the inflatable bladders are inflated to a respective second pressure greater than the corresponding test inflation pressure of each bladder based at least in part on the set one or more inflation parameters.

A compression treatment system is provided that detects the number of and type of garments connected thereto. The system includes a plurality of ports, valves connected thereto and a number of garments having one or more bladders. The bladders are in fluid communication with a fluid source in a pneumatic circuit, to provide compression therapy once a user confirms the number of and type of garments connected to the system for use by a patient. A single pressure sensor communicates with a plurality of detected bladders located in the one or more garments.

Garment detection method and system for delivering compression treatment

A fluid collection canister including a chamber to collect fluids and a canister top disposed over the chamber. The canister top includes a bottom side facing into the chamber, including first and second ribs disposed thereon, a filter membrane attached to the first and second ribs, a first port to communicate with the chamber and a pressure source external to the chamber, and a second port to communicate with the chamber and a sensor external to the chamber. The first port is in fluid communication with a first area, which is bounded by the filter membrane, the first and second ribs and the bottom side of the canister top. The second port is in fluid communication with a second area, which is bounded by the filter membrane, the second rib and the bottom side of the canister top.

A system to promote the healing of an exuding wound includes a wound dressing, a subatmospheric pressure mechanism, and a collection canister. The wound dressing is dimensioned for positioning relative to a wound bed of a subject. The subatmospheric pressure mechanism includes a control unit disposed within a housing. The control unit includes a vacuum source associated with a vacuum port. The collection canister has an interior wall which defines an internal chamber. The internal chamber is in fluid communication with the vacuum source of the subatmospheric pressure mechanism through the vacuum port and with the wound dressing for collecting exudates removed for the wound bed under influence of the vacuum source. The canister including a baffle mechanism disposed within the internal chamber for dampening the movement of the collected exudates.

Canister for receiving wound exudate in a negative pressure therapy system

A portable NPWT system includes a dressing assembly for positioning over a wound to apply a negative pressure to the wound and a canister assembly. The canister assembly includes a control unit having a vacuum source and a controller and a collection canister in communication with the dressing assembly operable to receive fluid from the wound. The collection canister has ports to introduce a vacuum from the vacuum source into the collection canister. A ball float is provided to substantially close the suction port in response to one of collection of a predetermined volume of exudate in the collection canister, tilting of the collection canister beyond a predetermined angle of orientation or inversion of the collection canister.

Portable negative pressure wound therapy device

A system for subatmospheric pressure therapy in connection with healing a wound includes a wound dressing adapted for positioning relative to a wound bed of a subject to apply a subatmospheric pressure to the wound and a subatmospheric pressure mechanism. The subatmospheric pressure mechanism may be portable and adapted to be carried or worn by the subject.

Wound therapy system with proportional valve mechanism

Apparatus and methods for cyclically compressing the limb of a patient to improve blood flow in the limb. In one embodiment, a compression device includes a compressive section sized and shaped for extending around a portion of the limb for applying compressive pressure and a housing operatively connected to the compressive section. The housing includes first and second housing members movable relative to each other between contracted and expanded positions. A non-pneumatic mechanical actuator is provided in the housing for cyclically moving the first and second housing members from their contracted position to their expanded position.

Compression device, system and method of use

A compression treatment system is provided that includes a first bladder supported about a limb. A second bladder is supported about the limb. The bladders are in fluid communication with a fluid source and the bladders are inflated such that the first bladder is inflated for a first time period and the second bladder is inflated for a second time period. The second time period is initiated within the first time period. A single pressure sensor communicates with the first bladder and the second bladder.
