A tiled display having pixels arranged in rows and columns, and including first and second tiles. The tiles comprise a substrate carrying a matrix of pixels arranged at a pixel pitch. The substrates comprise an edge extending between opposing faces in a depth direction. The substrate edges have a complementary shape, and face one another to establish a seam. The pixel pitch is maintained across the seam. Pixels of the second tile are not interposed between pixels of the first tile. The complementary shape includes a segment of the seam being oblique to the pixel rows, or the substrate edge of the first tile profiled in the depth direction whereby at least a section of the edge is non-perpendicular to the faces. The tiled display can maintain the pixel pitch at the seams at high resolutions (e.g., pixel pitch less than 0.5 mm).

Tiled displays and methods of manufacturing the same

A honeycomb extrusion die (), a method of making the same, and an apparatus for forming the same. The die () includes: a feed hole plate () comprising an input surface (A), an opposing output surface (B), and feed holes () configured to guide a batch material from the input surface (A) to the output surface (B); and a pin assembly () comprising pins () disposed on the feed hole plate (). At least one of the pins includes: a tail (); a head () connected to the tail () and comprising alignment surfaces () configured to align the pins (), flow surfaces () disposed between the alignment surfaces (), and a tapered portion () comprising a contact surface () adhered to the output surface (B) of the feed hole plate (); and a first groove () disposed between the head () and the tail (). In the pin assembly (), the alignment surfaces () contact adjacent pins () to align the pins (), such that discharge slots are at least partially defined by the tails () of the pins ().

Extrusion dies and methods and apparatuses for forming the same

A method of separating a glass web includes the steps of placing the glass web in tension by applying an in-plane tension to the glass web in a tensile direction and producing a region of increased tension on a first major surface of the glass web by imparting a curvature in the glass web. The method further includes separating the glass web along a separation path parallel to an axis of the curvature and transverse to the tensile direction by applying a defect to a portion of the first major surface in the region of increased tension.

A system for delivering and applying a flowable mixture to an article (-) is disclosed. The system includes a mixture delivery system () and a skinning system (). The mixture delivery system () includes a mixer () configured to mix a dry material and a fluid to produce the flowable mixture, and a pump () configured to pump the flowable mixture to a delivery line. The skinning system () receives the flowable mixture from the mixture delivery system () through the delivery line. The skinning system () includes a skinning pipe () configured to apply the flowable mixture to the article (-) and a manifold () that supports the skinning pipe (). The skinning system () also includes an article feeding mechanism () configured to push the article (-) into the skinning pipe (). The skinning system () includes a transfer system () configured to hold the article (-) and move the article (-) out of the skinning pipe ().

Systems and methods for skinning articles

A glass molding system and a method of making glass articles using the glass molding system are disclosed. The glass molding system includes an indexing table, a plurality of enclosures arranged along the indexing table, and a plurality of stations defined on the indexing table such that each of the stations is selectively indexable with any one of the enclosures. At least one radiant heater is arranged in at least one of the enclosures. A radiation reflector surface and a radiation emitter body are arranged in the at least one of the enclosures. The radiation emitter body is between the at least one radiant heater and the radiation reflector surface and has a first surface in opposing relation to the at least one radiant heater and a second surface in opposing relation to the radiation reflector surface.

Glass molding system and related apparatus and method

A scoring device is described herein that applies a constant force while scoring a piece of material so that there is a consistent score quality (or vent depth) within the scored piece of material. In one embodiment, the piece of material is a bowed shaped glass sheet that is supported by a conformable nosing device which has been configured to have a bowed shape that substantially matches the bowed shape of the glass sheet.

A gauging system is provided for measuring glass flatness and thickness, in which a glass sheet is accurately supported on a reference plane, and fiber optic sensors are lowered toward the glass to sense the location of the upper and lower surfaces of the glass sheet. The sensors send signals, which are representative of the locations of the surfaces, to a central processing unit which is used to calculate thickness and/or flatness of the glass sheet.

Disclosed herein is a method for producing a honeycomb body having a side surface bounded by a closed cylinder of a selected circumference and curvature comprising the steps of providing an extruded honeycomb body having a selected length and having a side surface bounded by a closed cylinder of a circumference larger than the selected and desired circumference; and removing material from the side surface to reduce the circumference thereof at least to the selected circumference. The instant invention's step of removing material from the side surface comprises grinding the side surface with a rotating abrasive means having a length at least equal to the selected length and an axis of rotation parallel to the side surface. Furthermore, the rotating abrasive means is attached to a spindle means which allows and controls movement of the rotating abrasive means in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation.
