Thermal spray coating obtained from a thermal spray powder material containing at least one of Aluminum-containing particles, Magnesium-containing particles, and Titanium-containing particles mechanically alloyed to a transition metal. The coating includes Aluminum, Magnesium, or Titanium alloy portions alloyed to the transition metal. The thermal spray powder is obtained of Aluminum, Magnesium, or Titanium containing particles mechanically alloyed to a transition metal.

The present invention discloses a turbine engine with at least a high pressure and a low pressure turbine section comprising a casing and at least one turbine blade rotatably mounted within the casing wherein at least part of the inner surface of the casing is covered with shrouds as abradables to provide clearance control between the inner surface and the tip of the at least one blade and wherein the tip of the blade is coated with a hard PVD coating, characterized in that the shroud material of at least the high pressure and/or the low pressure section comprises a porous ceramic based material and the hard PVD coating on the tip of the blade essentially consists of a droplet free nitride coating.

Turbine clearance control coatings and method

A thermal spray powder having a first component A mechanically blended with a second component B, wherein the first component A is a metal or metal composite, preferably at least one of Ni&#x2014;Cr&#x2014;Al clad ABN, Ni&#x2014;Cr&#x2014;Al clad HBN, Ni&#x2014;Cr&#x2014;Al clad agglomerated hexagonal boron nitride powder with organic binder, Ni&#x2014;Cr&#x2014;Al agglomerated hexagonal boron nitride powder with inorganic binder, an MCrAlY type powder where M is at least one of Ni, Co, Fe, and wherein component B is a polymer clad with at least one of nickel, nickel alloys, nickel chrome alloys, nickel chrome aluminum alloys, nickel aluminum alloys, cobalt and cobalt alloys. The result is a thermal spray powder of four distinctly different phases making the powder a four-phase blend.
