A programmable feature such as a software upgrade, updated print driver, new process, etc. is remotely delivered to an output device, such as a printer. First, the customer tenders payment for the feature. Next, the customer is provided with a coupon. The customer subsequently redeems the coupon and receives the requested feature in the form of a feature key in response to redeeming the coupon. The customer uses the feature key to install the feature on the output device. The feature key may be a print job that contains encrypted text. Security measures may be provided to ensure that the coupon and feature key are valid, such as requiring the customer to use a pre-designated decryption key on the feature key before the feature is installed on the output device.

System for installing programmable features on output devices

A programmable feature is remotely delivered to an output device, such as a printer. The delivery of the feature is initiated by the customer tendering payment for the feature. Compression of message headers. A message including an uncompressed header, a message including a compressed header or a request to support header compression is received. In response, a determination of the impact of header compression on performance is determined. If the determination is favorable, then header compression is supported for subsequent communications. However, if the determination is not favorable, then header compression is not supported for subsequent communications. If the impact of header compression on performance is determined to be favorable, then an identifier for a reference header is returned. The identifier is for use in a subsequent compressed header. The subsequent compressed header comprises the identifier and changes relative to the reference header. A server receives a message including a compressed header. The server determines whether it has sufficient memory or storage to support header compression. If so, the server handles the message, but if not, the server refuses to handle the message or notifies a sender of the message that it will not support header compression for subsequent messages.

A system and method to schedule data for transmission. The system comprises data generating means, developing means, and transmission scheduling means. The data generating means generates data comprising content data and metadata relating to the content data. The developing means develops a set of input data. The transmission scheduling means produces a continuously updating schedule for transmission of copies of the content data based on the metadata and the set of input data.

Data transmission management

A software program is installed somewhere on a network and acts as a custom proxy service. The software is used to filter content returning from a source to a web browser. At an appropriate point in the returning data stream, non-selectable content, such as, for example a corporate logo, or selectable content, such as, for example, a linking to other document sources or a print function, is injected. If the selectable content requires support processing, the software program installed on the network will process the selectable content and provide an end user with the processed information without requiring the end user's downloading device to process the downloaded information.
