A build piece is made from a build plan by an additive metal deposition process, the build plan created from a three dimensional definition of a desired part, the build plan having a first set of dimensions corresponding to the desired part and includes a support structure. The build piece is to a chemical etchant such that the support structure is removed from the build piece and the dimensions of the build piece corresponding to the desired part are reduced to a second set of dimensions.

Additive metal deposition process

A system is disclosed for use in manufacturing a component. The system may have a build chamber, a stage movable within the build chamber, and a recoater configured to deposit a layer of powdered material on top of the stage. The system may also have an energy source configured to direct a beam onto the layer of powdered material in a pattern corresponding to a shape of the component, and a brace fabricated before manufacturing of the component. The brace may be located adjacent a periphery of the component and extend from the stage toward the recoater.

At least one magnetic medium is loaded into a cavity of a build piece. The build piece is created by an additive manufacturing process. The magnetic medium is magnetically moved in the cavity.

Part processing

A three dimensional (3D) definition of a build piece, from which a build plan has been derived, is received. The computer system generates, based on the 3D definition, a processing plan that includes a plurality of robotic instructions to successively orient a build piece created by an additive manufacturing process into successive orientations. The computer system outputs the processing plan for use by a robotic controller.
