An electrochromic (EC) device and method, the EC device including: an optically transparent first substrate; a working electrode disposed on the first substrate and including electrochromic nanoparticles and a flux material having a melting point ranging from about 25&#xb0; C. to about 500&#xb0; C.; and an electrolyte disposed on the working electrode. The flux material is configured to prevent or reduce sintering of the nanoparticles at a temperature of up to about 700&#xb0; C.

Electrochromic device including lithium-rich anti-perovskite material

Various embodiments may include methods of controlling a temperature of an electrochromic device. The methods may include determining a current temperature of the electrochromic device which includes a first transparent conductor electrically connected to a working electrode, and a second transparent conductor electrically connected to a counter electrode, and applying the heating current to the first transparent conductor and the second transparent conductor if the current temperature is below a minimum temperature to heat the electrochromic device. Further embodiments may include an electrochromic system including an electrochromic device and a controller configured to control the temperature of the electrochromic device.

An electrochromic device and method, the device including: a first transparent conductor layer; a working electrode disposed on the first transparent conductor layer and including nanostructures; a counter electrode; a solid state electrolyte layer disposed between the counter electrode and the working electrode; and a second transparent conductor layer disposed on the counter electrode. The nanostructures may include transition metal oxide nanoparticles and/or nanocrystals configured to tune the color of the device by selectively modulating the transmittance of near-infrared (NIR) and visible radiation as a function of an applied voltage to the device.

An electrochromic device may include a working electrode that includes a high temperature stable material and nanoparticles of an active core material, a counter electrode, and an electrolyte deposited between the working electrode and the counter electrode. The high temperature stable material may prevent fusing of the nanoparticles of the active core material at temperatures up to 700&#xb0; C. The high temperature stable material may include tantalum oxide. The high temperature stable material may form a spherical shell or a matrix around the nanoparticles of the active core material. A method of forming an electrochromic device may include depositing a working electrode onto a first substrate, in which the working electrode comprises a high temperature stable material and nanoparticles of an active core material, and heat tempering the working electrode and the first substrate.

Post-temperable nanocrystal electrochromic devices

An electrochromic (EC) privacy window includes an EC pane unit including a first EC device having a bright state and a dark state, and a privacy device facing the EC pane unit and having a bright state and a privacy state configured to attenuate visible radiation transmitted through the window. In some embodiments, when the privacy device is in the privacy state, the window has transmitted haze of greater that 80%. In other embodiments, when the privacy device is in the privacy state and the first EC device is in the dark state, the window has a visible transmittance of about 0.1% or less.

An electrochromic device includes a nanostructured transition metal oxide bronze layer that includes one or more transition metal oxide and one or more dopant. The electrochromic device also includes nanoparticles containing one or more transparent conducting oxide (TCO), a solid state electrolyte, a counter electrode, and at least one protective layer to prevent degradation of the one or more nanostructured transition metal oxide bronze. The nanostructured transition metal oxide bronze selectively modulates transmittance of near-infrared (NIR) and visible radiation as a function of an applied voltage to the device.

Improved building-integrated photovoltaic systems according to certain example embodiments may include concentrated photovoltaic skylights or other windows having a cylindrical lens array. The skylight may include an insulated glass unit, which may improve the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). The photovoltaic skylight and lens arrays may be used in combination with strip solar cells. Arrangements that involve lateral displacement tracking systems, or static systems (e.g., that are fixed at one, two, or more predefined positions) are contemplated herein. Such techniques may advantageously help to reduce cost per watt related, in part, to the potentially reduced amount of semiconductor material to be used for such example embodiments. A photovoltaic skylight may permit diffuse daylight to pass through into an interior of a building so as to provide lighting inside the building, while the strip solar cells absorb the direct sunlight and convert it to electricity, providing for SHGC tuning.

Multifunctional static or semi-static photovoltaic skylight and/or methods of making the same

Certain example embodiments relate to a sunlight-scattering thin-film coating disposed on a substrate for greenhouse applications. The surface morphology of the coating promotes a better and more uniform light distribution. For instance, at least one thin-film layer disposed on a substrate may be textured so as to create surface features on the order of 0.1-5 microns, with the surface features being sized to cause (a) light having a wavelength of greater than or equal to about 800 nm incident thereon to primarily scatter to angles less than 30 degrees relative to a major surface of the substrate and (b) light having a wavelength of less than or equal to about 700 nm incident thereon to primarily scatter to angles greater than 20 degrees relative to the major surface of the substrate. This arrangement may advantageously direct beneficial light towards plant life while directing parasitic light away from the plant life.

Light scattering coating for greenhouse applications, and/or coated article including the same

A high transmission and low iron glass is provided for use in a solar cell. The glass substrate may be patterned on at least one surface thereof. Antimony (Sb) is used in the glass to improve stability of the solar performance of the glass upon exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation and/or sunlight. The combination of low iron content, antimony, and/or the patterning of the glass substrate results in a substrate with high visible transmission and excellent light refracting characteristics.

Solar cell using low iron high transmission glass with antimony and corresponding method

A high transmission and low iron glass is provided for use in a photovoltaic device such as a solar cell. The glass substrate may be patterned on at least one surface thereof. In certain example embodiments, a combination of lithium oxide, antimony oxide, and salt cake is used in the glass to improve the refining conditions by lowering the melting temperature of the batch, thereby resulting in a quicker seed free time in the manufacturing process.
