Azine derivatives or their combinations with hindered phenol antioxidant in the charge transport layer containing one or more triarylamines or a combination of one triarylamine and one hydrazone improve light fatigue of a photoreceptor, which results in stabilized print quality. The robust performance against light damage allows the shutter in a cartridge to be removed and the requirement for special protection procedure during inspection and handling to be simplified.

A photoconductor having a charge generation layer of pigment and a binder resin of a thorough mixture of polyvinylbutyral, a polysiloxane, and, preferably, a phenolic resin. An optimum formulation was Type IV oxotitanium phthalocyanine in a binder of, by weight 50 parts polyvinylbutyral, 45 parts poly(methyl-phenyl)siloxane, and 5 parts polyhydroxystyrene. This photoconductor provides excellent electrical properties and consistent, economical coating results.

A photoconductor for use in electrophotographic reproduction devices is disclosed. The photoconductor provides simultaneous improvement in both photoreceptor sensitivity and fatigue, while also providing higher charge voltage, lower residual voltage and lower dark decay. The photoconductor of the present invention includes simple quinone additives in either the charge generation layer, the charge transport layer, or both layers. Quinone additives are preferably selected from o-quinone, duroquinone, diphenoquinone, naphthaquinone, and mixtures of those materials, with duroquinone and the mixture E+Z 3, 3'-di-t-butyl-5, 5'-dimethyl diphenoquinones being preferred.

Methods of making a charge generation layer comprise premixing a charge generation compound, a charge transport compound and solvent to form a premix essentially free of polymeric binder, mixing the premix with at least one polymeric binder to form a dispersion, and coating the dispersion on a substrate. Photoconductors comprising a substrate, a charge transport layer and a charge generation layer formed by such a method exhibit improved electrical sensitivity.

Photoconductors comprise a substrate, a charge transport layer and a charge generation layer, wherein the charge transport layer comprises binder and a first charge transport compound and the charge generation layer comprises binder, a charge generation compound and a second charge transport compound. The first and second charge transport compounds may be the same or different. In a first embodiment, the second charge transport compound is effective as a dopant in the charge generation layer and the weight ratio of the charge generation compound to the second charge transport compound in the charge generation layer is not less than about 1:3. In a second embodiment, the charge generation layer is formed on the substrate and the charge transport layer is formed on the charge generation layer. In a third embodiment, the charge generation layer comprises at least about 15 weight percent, based on the weight of the charge generation layer, of the charge generation compound.

The bottom of a dip coating bath (5a) is perfluoro(methylcyclohexane), a dense, inert liquid. A much thinner layer of coating solution occupies the top (5b) of the bath. An aluminum drum (1) to be coated is moved into the bottom bath until the top of the drum is in the top of the bath. The drum is moved out of the bath and is coated by the top liquid. The amount of coating material used is greatly reduced and the inert liquid can be reused.

Photoconductors comprise a substrate, a charge transport layer, and a charge generation layer. The charge transport layer comprises binder and a charge transport compound comprising at least one of a hydrazone, aromatic amine, or substituted aromatic amine, and the charge generation layer comprises binder, a phthalocyanine charge generating compound and a hindered hydroxylated aromatic compound. The hindered hydroxylated aromatic compound reduces electrical fatigue upon cycling without adversely effecting the electrical performance of the photoconductors.

Titanium dioxide added to oxo-titanyl phthalocyanine in a resin binder forming a charge generation layer having significantly improved dark decay and sensitivity. Added sensitivity is obtained when the X-form is precipitated from a dichloromethane/trifluoroacetic acid/oxo-titanyl phthalocyanine mixture by adding a water/methanol mixture containing titanium dioxide.
