A telematics system for a mobile UE includes a telematics controller that is configured to communicate via a plurality of communication channels. The telematics controller determines, for each of the communication channels, a parameter related to data throughput and energy consumption to effect an uplink communication between the telematics controller and a second device when the mobile UE is in a low-power operating mode. The parameter related to data throughput and energy consumption to effect the uplink communication is compared with a threshold. One of the communication channels is selected based upon the parameter related to data throughput and energy consumption to effect the uplink communication. The telematics controller communicates with the second device via the one of the plurality of communication channels when the mobile UE is in the low-power operating mode.

System and method for wireless data transmission from mobile user equipment during low power operation

A vehicle system includes a user device configured to produce acoustic sounds at varying frequencies. The vehicle system also includes a vehicle microphone for collecting acoustic data from the user device. Additionally, the vehicle system includes a vehicle processor for storing vehicle data including the acoustic data and a server communicatively coupled to the vehicle processor. In some examples, the server is configured to determine if the acoustic data match one or more predetermined frequencies of sound.

The memory hardware stores instructions that when executed on the data processing hardware cause the data processing hardware to perform operations. The operations include configuring a ping interval protocol for an electronic control unit (ECU), initializing a ping fail counter of the ping interval protocol, and establishing a message queueing telemetry transport (MQTT) session. The operations also include detecting a ping status of the ping interval protocol, determining, automatically, an optimal ping interval of the ping interval protocol based on the detected ping status and the ping fail counter, constructing a ping interval topic for the MQTT session, and publishing the determined optimal ping interval to the ping interval topic.

Presented are intelligent vehicle communications (comm) systems provisioning enhanced vehicle-to-everything (V2X) wireless mesh network (WMN) hop propagation, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method of controlling operation of a host vehicle includes a vehicle controller determining the host vehicle is incapacitated and then detecting the host vehicle's wireless comm device is unable to connect to a cellular or satellite communications system. Responsive to such insufficient connectivity, the controller broadcasts a V2X WMN distress message containing data specific to the host vehicle and data specific to the host vehicle's incapacitating event. Upon receipt of the distress message, a recipient vehicle's controller determines if a prior distress message for the incapacitating vehicle event was previously received and if the distress message exceeds any preset multi-hop restrictions. If yes to either, the resident controller disables retransmission of the distress message to other recipient nodes over the WMN.

Intelligent vehicles and control logic for enhanced vehicle-to-everything wireless mesh communications

A system for providing updates in a vehicle includes a server device configured for providing an OTA campaign update and the vehicle. The vehicle includes a device including software to be upgraded by the over-the-air campaign update and a low voltage battery providing low voltage power. The system further includes a battery providing high voltage power and an accessory power module configured to transform the high voltage power into low voltage power and including programming to estimate an available power of the low voltage battery. The system further includes a controller monitoring the available power, comparing the available power to a threshold, and, when the available power is less than the threshold, commanding the accessory power module to transform the high voltage power to provide the low voltage electrical power. The controller further schedules receiving the update based upon the available power and updates the device with the update.

The controller further compares the total energy consumption to a first threshold energy consumption and a second threshold energy consumption and, when the total energy consumption is less than the first threshold energy consumption, operates the telematics unit in a first mode including unrestricted communication. The telematics communication mode controller, when the total energy consumption is between the first threshold energy consumption and the second threshold energy consumption, operates the telematics unit in a second MICO mode and, when the total energy consumption is greater than the second threshold energy consumption, deactivates communications by the telematics unit.

The telematics unit is configured to carry out wireless data communications according to a publish-subscribe messaging protocol. A command unit is in communication with the telematics unit, the command unit having a processor and tangible, non-transitory memory on which instructions are recorded. The telematics unit is configured to establish a network connection with the broker module. The command unit is adapted to create a dynamic retry delay process for the network connection by varying a connection retry delay time based on a plurality of failure categories and an operation mode of the vehicle. A system for multi-mode connectivity for group vehicle activity and for over-the-air updates via time synchronized device-to-device side-link communications is provided. The system includes a remote communication device configured to transmit data, vehicles to receive the data, and a computerized controller. The controller includes programming to analyze hardware of the vehicles to identify alpha vehicles including excellent wireless capabilities, monitor signal strength between the vehicles and the remote communication device to identify vehicles including relatively strong communication strength, and determine a portion of the plurality of vehicles including highly functioning vehicles including the capabilities and communication strength. System and method for multi-mode connectivity for group vehicle activity and for over-the-air updates via time synchronized device-to-device side-link communications

Presented are intelligent vehicle communications systems for cellular link monitoring and failure detection, methods for making/using such systems, and vehicles equipped with such systems. A method for operating a wireless-enabled vehicle component of a motor vehicle includes a cellular communications device of the vehicle component detecting an uplink (or downlink) network data packet transmitted by (or to) the vehicle. An electronic vehicle controller then establishes an observation period as a function of the time at which the network data packet was transmitted. The opposite downlink (or uplink) of the wireless-enabled vehicle component is monitored to determine if a downlink (or uplink) network data packet is received within the observation period, thereby indicating detection of a cellular link failure. Responsive to a detected cellular link failure, the vehicle controller conducts a supplemental assessment of the opposite link and/or a corrective action to re-establish a data link for the opposite link.

A system for updating vehicle time information includes a communication device configured to wirelessly communicate with a wireless network using a network communication protocol. The system also includes a processing unit configured to assess communications between the vehicle to determine whether a condition related to a potential local time offset error exists, and based on determining that the condition exists, transmit a message supported by the communication protocol to the wireless network. The message is configured to prompt the wireless network to return a response message including a local time offset. The process is also configured to update a vehicle local time record based on the local time offset.

The memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the processor, cause the system to determine a defect in the primary antenna and activate a diagnostic trouble code associated with the defect, in response to determining that the primary maximum signal quality is below the threshold.

Method for detecting an antenna defect in a mobile communication system of a motor vehicle

A method for beamform management in vehicular communications includes, within a computerized processor, determining a planned route for a vehicle, identifying a plurality of candidate cellular towers with which the vehicle may communicate along the planned route, and determining signal strengths of each of the towers at locations along the route. The method further includes determining a communication plan including identifying locations of each of the towers and segmenting the planned route into portions based upon the determined signal strengths. One of the towers is assigned to communicate with the vehicle for each of the portions based upon the signal strengths. The method further includes utilizing the communication plan to change communication between the vehicle and the towers as the vehicle traverses the route by directing a primary lobe of an antenna beam toward each of the candidate cellular towers in turn according to the communication plan.
