A device with an improved user interface and mounting features comprises a sensor operable to detect a mounting configuration of the device, a display, and a processing system coupled with the sensor and the display. The processing system is generally operable to receive an indication of the detected mounting configuration from the sensor and present information on the display according to the detected mounting configuration.

A navigation device with improved detour routing is disclosed. The navigation device is generally operable to calculate a first route to a destination utilizing a current location of the navigation device, receive a detour request from a user provided by the user functioning a single detour input once, and calculate a second detour route to the destination in response to the detour request. Such a configuration enables the user to easily and safely request additional route calculations to provide a detour around undesirable travel conditions without requiring extensive user input.

A portable GPS/radio unit () communicates over a wireless radio network () with at least one other such unit (A-E). The unit () may transmit radio signals over the network () indicative of the unit's location and receive similar radio signals from other such units. The unit () is operable to display an indication of the distance between two or more units, an indication of the amount of time that has elapsed since location data was last received from another unit, a track log or track back information for another unit, and an indication if the unit () is about to lose communications with another unit. The unit () also may be operated to gather and transmit to other units location data corresponding to way points. The perspective or vantage point from which location data and other information is viewed may be selected or changed by the user of the unit ().

Combined global positioning system receiver and radio with enhanced display features

Methods, data structures, and systems provide techniques for processing track logs. A track log is represented as a plurality of track points. The track points represent geographic positions previously traversed. The track log and the track points are overlaid on a map and presented on a display in communication with a portable navigation device. Track points are graphically selected and identified via the display. Any graphically selected track point is also associated with a selectable operation for immediate, automatic, and/or subsequent execution on the portable navigation device.
