A threaded cooling apparatus includes a head having a heat exchanger and a shaft having a threaded section configured to mechanically fasten the head to a structure. The heat exchanger is configured to exchange heat with a coolant flowing through the head. The shaft also includes first and second cooling channels. The first cooling channel is configured to deliver the coolant to the heat exchanger, and the second cooling channel is configured to exhaust the coolant from the heat exchanger. The apparatus may also include a first seal between the head and the structure that is configured to reduce or prevent coolant loss. The apparatus may further include a second seal that is configured to reduce or prevent coolant flow between the first and second cooling channels that bypasses the heat exchanger.

The present invention relates to liquid cooling systems and more particularly to a liquid cooling system for an electrical system on an air-cooled platform. In one embodiment of the invention, a liquid-cooled system for a platform with air cooling includes an electrical system comprising first and second electrical components; a cooling unit comprising an air flow path, a first heat exchanger in the air flow path, and a second heat exchanger in the air flow path downstream of the first heat exchanger; a first liquid loop passing through the first heat exchanger and the first electrical component; and a second liquid loop passing through the second heat exchanger and the second electrical component. The first liquid loop is substantially thermally isolated from the second liquid loop.

Effective utilization of a parallel flow air-cooled microchannel array at the micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) scale is prohibited by unfavorable flow patterns in simple rectangular arrays. The primary problem encountered is the inability of the flow stream to penetrate a sufficient depth into the fin core to achieve the desired fin efficiency. Embodiments of the present invention overcome this problem using a manifold with open nozzle discharge and integrated lateral exhaust along with a microchannel array cooler with micro spreading cavities for internal air distribution.

Provided is a heat exchanger, heat sink or coldwall having a machined manifold for receiving a plurality of individual, modular micro-channel heat exchanger elements. The manifold further includes a parallel flow network or flow distribution network for distributing a cooling fluid uniformly to all micro-channel heat exchanger elements. Each micro-channel heat exchanger element is individually manufactured and tested prior to integration with the manifold. The design of the micro-channel heat exchanger elements may include a straight fin, a high density fin, lanced offset fin, and perforated offset layers fin configurations.

Scaleable parallel flow micro-channel heat exchanger and method for manufacturing same

The present invention relates to panel array antennas, and more particularly to a cooling system for an antenna such as a jet stream conformal panel array antenna. In one embodiment, a panel array antenna for an aircraft includes a closed-loop fluid flow path that passes through the panel array assembly and dissipates heat to the jet stream outside the aircraft. A fluid such as pressurized air passes through this closed-loop path, flowing through strategically-placed openings in the layers of the panel array assembly and flowing over and around the hot electrical components in the panel assembly. The air is heated by these electrical components, and the heated air then flows through the flow path under the top sheet, dissipating the heat to the jet stream outside. In one embodiment, a panel array antenna includes a panel assembly having a top layer through which the antenna radiates or receives a signal, and a fluid flow path through the panel assembly. A first portion of the fluid flow path is disposed below the top layer such that a fluid passing through the first portion of the fluid flow path is in heat transfer proximity to the top layer.

In some embodiments, a semiconductor cooling apparatus includes a monolithic array of cooling elements. Each cooling element of the monolithic array of cooling elements is configured to thermally couple to a respective semiconductor element of an array of semiconductor elements. At least two of the semiconductor elements have a different height and each cooling element independently flexes to conform to the height of the respective semiconductor element.

An optical device includes an optical material comprising active dopant ions and absorber dopant ions spaced apart from the active dopant ions. The active dopant ions are provided to absorb a first radiation and convert a portion of the first radiation into sensible heat. A slot impingement cooler is formed of a plurality of sets of foils in a stacked and registered array. In each set of foils, a first foil has supply slots that direct a flow of coolant, a second foil has a plurality of effective light-trap cavities, a third foil has return slots that return the flow of coolant, and an optional fourth foil has a plurality of effective light-trap cavities. The foils have registered supply manifold openings and registered return manifold openings therethrough.

A cold plate assembly, which in one embodiment includes a manifold layer comprising one or more input coolant sub-manifold channels and one or more output coolant sub-manifold channels. A metering plate having a plurality of orifices defined there through is disposed adjacent the manifold layer in spaced relation to a cover plate. A core layer is disposed between the metering plate and cover plate, the core layer comprising corrugated fin material. The input sub-manifold channels and output sub-manifold channels are in fluid communication through fluid paths passing through the orifices in the metering plate and the core layer.
