Systems and methods that provide a unified infrastructure over layer-2 networks are provided. A first frame is generated by an end point. The first frame comprises a proxy payload, a proxy association header and a frame header relating to a control proxy element. The first frame is sent over a first network to the control proxy element. A second frame is generated by the control proxy element. The second frame comprises the proxy payload and a proxy header. The first and second frames correspond to different layer-2 protocols. The control proxy element sends the second frame over a second network employing the layer-2 protocol of the second frame.

Unified infrastructure over ethernet

Systems and methods that network interface in a multiple network environment are provided. In one embodiment, the system includes, for example, a network connector, a processor, a peripheral component interface (PCI) bridge and a unified driver. The processor may be coupled to the network connector and to the PCI bridge. The processor may be adapted, for example, to process a plurality of different types of network traffic. The unified driver may be coupled to the PCI bridge and may be adapted to provide drivers associated with the plurality of different types of network traffic.

System and method for network interfacing in a multiple network environment

Methods and associated systems are disclosed for providing secured data transmission over a data network. Data to be encrypted and encryption information may be sent to a security processor via a packet network so that the security processor may extract the encryption information and use it to encrypt the data. The encryption information may include flow information, security association and/or other cryptographic information, and/or one or more addresses associated with such information. The encryption information may consist of a tag in a header that is appended to packets to be encrypted before the packets are sent to the security processor. The packet and tag header may be encapsulated into an Ethernet packet and routed via an Ethernet connection to the security processor.

Systems and methods that provide one-shot remote direct memory access (RDMA) are provided. In one embodiment, a system that transfers data over an RDMA network may include, for example, a host. The host may include, for example, a driver and a network interface card (NIC), the driver being coupled to the NIC. The driver and the NIC may perform a one-shot initiation process and/or a one-shot completion process of an RDMA operation.

Aspects of the invention may comprise receiving an incoming TCP packet at a TEEC and processing at least a portion of the incoming packet once by the TEEC without having to do any reassembly and/or retransmission by the TEEC. At least a portion of the incoming TCP packet may be buffered in at least one internal elastic buffer of the TEEC. The internal elastic buffer may comprise a receive internal elastic buffer and/or a transmit internal elastic buffer. Accordingly, at least a portion of the incoming TCP packet may be buffered in the receive internal elastic buffer. At least a portion of the processed incoming packet may be placed in a portion of a host memory for processing by a host processor or CPU. Furthermore, at least a portion of the processed incoming TCP packet may be DMA transferred to a portion of the host memory.

A network controller in a communication device may be operable to provide pass-through communication of local host-management traffic between a local host and a management controller within the communication device, wherein the local host may be operable to utilize its network processing resources during communication of the local host-management traffic. The network controller may use packet filtering to provide the pass-through communication, wherein the network controller may utilize a plurality filtering rules during filtering of packets received in the network controller. The filtering rules may specify packet processing and/or forwarding actions by said network controller based on one or more specified conditions. The specified conditions may based on one or more match criteria; wherein the match criteria comprising source address, destination address, and/or traffic type data in the received packets. Address learning mechanisms may be used in the network controller to enable configuring and/or performing packet filtering transparently.

Methods and apparatus for providing a bus interface are disclosed. An example bus interface includes a first power supply bus configured to distribute a first power supply voltage to first circuitry during a normal operating mode of the bus interface and power off during a low power operating mode of the bus interface. The example bus interface also includes a second power supply bus configured to distribute the first power supply voltage to second circuitry during the normal operating mode and distribute a second power supply voltage to the second circuitry during the low power operating mode. The example bus interface further includes a selection device coupled with the first power supply bus and the second power supply bus, where the selection device is configured to transition the bus interface between the normal operating mode and the low power operating mode in response to a received signal.

A method for processing network data includes collecting by a network interface controller (NIC), a plurality of transmit (TX) buffer indicators into a plurality of priority lists of connections. One or more of the plurality of TX buffer indicators may be selected. The identified transmit-ready data may be retrieved into the NIC based on the selected one or more of the plurality of TX buffer indicators. At least a portion of the identified transmit-ready data may be transmitted. Each of the plurality of priority lists may be generated based on a particular connection priority characteristic and a particular connection type. The identified transmit-ready data may be associated with the same connection priority characteristic and the same connection type.

Method and system for transmit scheduling for multi-layer network interface controller (NIC) operation

A network interface device for use with a host computer that includes a host processor and a memory, and which is configured to concurrently run a master operating system and at least one virtual operating system. The device includes a bus interface that communicates over a bus with the host processor and the memory, and a network interface, which is coupled to send and receive data packets carrying data over a packet network. A protocol processor is coupled between the bus interface and the network interface so as to convey the data between the network interface and the memory while performing protocol processing on the data packets under instructions from the at least one virtual operating system, while bypassing the master operating system.

A communications network includes a management device and a remote device. The remote device includes a physical layer device (PHY) coupled to a link partner. An independent station manager of the remote device provides the bi-directional exchange of management information between the PHY and a serial-to-parallel (S/P) interface connecting the remote device and the management device. A station manager of the management device provides the bi-directional exchange of management information between the S/P interface and a Media Access Controller (MAC) of the management device. The independent station manager and the station manager transmit initiation messages, formatted according to a message template of an Auto-Negotiation (AN) routine of the S/P interface reserved for customization, to reserve an embedded management channel for the transfer of management information. Management information messages, formatted according to a message template of the AN routine, are subsequently exchanged, thereby providing Auto-Negotiation of the PHY.

Certain aspects of a method and system for supporting hardware acceleration for iSCSI read and write operations via a TCP offload engine may comprise pre-registering at least one buffer with hardware. An iSCSI command may be received from an initiator. An initiator test tag value, a data sequence value and/or a buffer offset value of an iSCSI buffer may be compared with the pre-registered buffer. Data may be fetched from the pre-registered buffer based on comparing the initiator test tag value, the data sequence value and/or the buffer offset value of the iSCSI buffer with the pre-registered buffer. The fetched data may be zero copied from the pre-registered buffer to the initiator.

In one embodiment, a method of communicating between an Ethernet-based system and a non-Ethernet-based network may include, for example, one or more of the following: generating an Ethernet frame that comprises a proxy payload, a proxy association header and an Ethernet header, the Ethernet header relating to a control proxy element; sending the Ethernet frame over an Ethernet-based network to the control proxy element; generating a non-Ethernet frame that comprises the proxy payload and a proxy header; and sending the non-Ethernet frame over a non-Ethernet-based network.

A method for providing TCP/IP offload may include receiving control of at least a portion of Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection variables by a TCP/IP Offload Engine operatively coupled to a host. The at least a portion of the TCP/IP Offload Engine connection variables may be updated and provided to the host. The TCP/IP Offload Engine may receive control of segment-variant TCP connection variables. The TCP/IP Offload Engine may update the received TCP segment-variant TCP connection variables, and communicate the updated TCP segment-variant TCP connection variables to the host. A system for providing connection offload may include a TCP/IP Offload Engine that receives control of state information for a particular connection offloaded to a network interface card (NIC). Control of the state information for the particular connection may be split between the NIC and a host.
