An assembly and method for mechanically skiving a tube to later form into a medical balloon are provided. The assembly includes a blade holder and a tube guide wherein the blade holder retains the blade in a diagonal relationship relative to the tube guide. A lathe assembly includes a mandrel for extending into a lumen of the tube and fitting into the tube guide. The lathe assembly further includes a spinning mechanism that rotates the mandrel relative to the blade for skiving the exterior surface of the polymer tube. The diagonal relationship allows for precise shaping of a transition portion of the tube, which is located between a medially located un-skived portion of tube and two skived portions located at tube ends. Once the tube is skived, a molding process inflates the un-skived portion into a balloon and stretches the transition portion and the skived portions forming a medical balloon.

A bulbous valvuloplasty balloon is described that maintains its bulbous shape in its final deployed configuration along with the method of use for post dilation of a TAVR device. The bulbous balloon has two larger diameter bulb segments located on each side of a smaller diameter waist and can be used to post dilate a TAVR device that has been implanted at the site of a stenotic aortic valve. The post dilation causes deformation of the underlying tissues residing outside of the TARV stent structure.

A medical device that may be implanted in a patient's body is disclosed. An illustrative medical device has an elongated structure that includes a material loaded with a radiopaque material. The radiopaque material includes radiopaque particles having multiple sets of radiopaque particles. The multiple sets of radiopaque particles may include a first set of radiopaque particles having particles with particle sizes in a first particle size range and a second set of radiopaque particles having particles with particle sizes in a second particle size range. The second set of radiopaque particles may have particles configured to fit within interstitial spaces between particles of the first set of radiopaque particles.

In one aspect, the present invention provides therapeutic-agent-releasing medical devices which comprise at least one region of piezoelectric material. Therapeutic agent release is initiated or increased when the piezoelectric material is subjected to mechanical stress, which leads to the development of a voltage across the piezoelectric material. This voltage is used to initiate or increase therapeutic agent release.

Radiopaque polymers have a main chain and a plurality of amide groups which have bound to the amide nitrogen atom thereof an organohalide group that is pendant to the polymer main chain, the organo halide group including one or more iodine and/or bromine atoms thereon. The polymer may be a modified polyamide polymer, copolymer or block copolymer or a modified poly(meth)acrylamide or (meth)acrylamide copolymer or block copolymer. The polymers may be employed in medical devices and are useful for instance to track the movement of a catheter through the body or the inflation of a balloon at a site.
