A method of manufacturing a polymer foam composite is described, the method comprising forming an article having a first surface and an opposite second surface from a precursor composition, the precursor composition comprising a polymer foam precursor composition, and a filler composition comprising a plurality of magnetic, electrically conductive particles; foaming the precursor composition to form a plurality of cells in precursor composition; applying a magnetic field to the foamed precursor composition, wherein the magnetic field is of a strength and applied for a time effective to align the electrically conductive, magnetic particles into mutually isolated chains between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the article; and solidifying the polymer foam precursor composition to provide a polymer foam composite having a density of about 1 to about 125 pounds per cubic foot and a volume resistivity of about 10ohm-cm to about 10ohm-cm at a pressure of 60 pounds per square inch. Polymer foam composites made by this method are also described, as well as articles formed therefrom.

Conductive polymer foams, method of manufacture, and articles thereof

Articles are disclosed, comprising a polymer foam layer having a first surface and an opposite second surface; a plurality of cells between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer, wherein the thickness of the polymer foam layer between the first surface and the opposite second surface is 1.0 to 1.5 times the average height of the plurality of cells; and a plurality of electrically conductive particles aligned into a plurality of columns that essentially continuously span the foam between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer. The foams are useful as gaskets for electromagnetic shielding, grounding pads, battery contact conductive spring elements, and the like.

Conductive polymer foams, method of manufacture, and uses thereof

Articles are disclosed, comprising a polymer foam layer having a first surface and an opposite second surface; a plurality of cells between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer, wherein the thickness of the polymer foam layer between the first surface and the opposite second surface is 1.0 to 1.5 times the average height of the plurality of cells; and a plurality of magnetic, electrically conductive particles aligned into a plurality of mutually isolated chains that essentially continuously span the foam between the first surface and the opposite second surface of the polymer foam layer. The foams are useful as gaskets for electromagnetic shielding, grounding pads, battery contact conductive spring elements, and the like.

A silicone grip comprising a cured silicone film layer with a Shore A Durometer of less than or equal to about 60 wherein the silicone film layer is formed from a curable silicone composition comprising a catalyst that promotes cure of the silicone composition, a higher molecular weight organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups per molecule, a lower molecular weight organopolysiloxane having at least two alkenyl groups per molecule, and an organopolysiloxane having at least two silicon-bonded hydrogen atoms per molecule. The cured silicone layer is used in combination with an adhesive to provide a flexible and malleable grip, and/or in combination with a backing layer that can be solid or foamed.

Silicone compositions, methods of manufacture, and articles formed therefrom

A method for producing a cured, low-density polyurethane foam, the method comprises frothing a reactive polyurethane-forming composition comprising an isocyanate-containing component, an active hydrogen-containing component reactive with the isocyanate-containing component, a blowing agent, a surfactant, and catalyst system, wherein the catalyst system provides for a delayed curing of the foam; casting the frothed reactive polyurethane-forming composition onto a first carrier; placing a second carrier on a side of the cast foam opposite the first carrier; blowing the froth with the second carrier in place; and curing the blown froth so as to provide a polyurethane foam layer having a density of about 50 to about 400 kg/mand a thickness of about 0.3 to about 13 mm. The foams are useful as sealing members.

Low density polyurethane foam, method of producing, and articles comprising the same

A thermoformable polyurethane foam having excellent compression set resistance, and a thermoformable polyurethane foam having excellent compression set resistance and shape retention under load. In another embodiment, at least one additional layer of a polyurethane foam is integrally bonded to the thermoformable foam. A moisture management system for polyurethane foams is also described. The foams have particular utility as shoe sole inserts.

Polyurethane foams and method of manufacture thereof

An open-celled polyurethane foam formed from a composition comprising an active hydrogen-containing component, an organic polyisocyanate component having an average isocyanate functionality of 2.00 to 2.25, a surfactant component, and a catalyst. The foam has a thickness of about 6 to about 20 mils; a density of about 10 to about 50 pcf; an average cell diameter of about 25 to about 80 microns; and cell openings having an average diameter of about 1 to about 25 microns, wherein the ratio of average cell diameter to average cell opening diameter is about 3 to about 10; a water vapor transmission rate of greater than about 1000 grams per square meter per day, and which do not leak water or similar fluids. Such foams find particular utility as backings for bandages.

Polyurethane foam composition and method of manufacture thereof

A polyurethane foam or elastomer comprises an organic polyisocyanate component, an active hydrogen-containing component reactive with the polyisocyanate component, wherein the viscosity of this component is less than about 500 cP at room temperature, a catalyst component, a surfactant, and a flame retarding composition. The components may be low VOC. A preferred flame retarding composition comprises an antimony-based compound, a halogenated, active hydrogen-containing component reactive with the polyisocyanate component, and a halogenated flame-retarding agent. Such polyurethanes are useful as gaskets, seals, padding, in automotive applications, and the like.

Flame retardant polyurethane composition and method of manufacture thereof

Integrally bonded composite polyurethane foams substantially free from coalescence and with no discernable bond or structural interface layer when viewed at 50&times; magnification can be formed by wet casting a second foamed polyurethane composition onto a first wet cast foamed polyurethane composition and simultaneously curing the cast foams. In a preferred embodiment, one curable polyurethane composition forms a slow recovery foam and the other curable polyurethane composition forms a resilient foam.

Composite polyurethane foams and method of manufacture thereof

Compositions for the formation of temperature resistant, tough, flame retardant polyurethane foams, comprising a low VOC polyisocyanate component wherein the isocyanate is a low functionality isocyanate; a low VOC active-hydrogen containing component substantially reactive with the low functionality isocyanate to form a polyurethane; a surfactant composition; and a catalyst component, wherein the total mass loss of the foam is less than 1% by weight as measured by ASTM E595. The foams are useful as gasketing materials, for example.

Tough, fire resistant polyurethane foam and method of manufacture thereof

Nickel acetyl acetonate catalysts used in the manufacture of polyurethanes and particularly polyurathane foam, is replaced with a more environmentally friendly organo-metallic catalyst, specifically other metal acetyl acetonates such as iron or copper. In accordance with an important feature of this invention, in addition to the metal acetyl acetonate, the catalyst system also includes acetyl acetone. The acetyl acetone acts as a delay mechanism to delay the catalytic action of the metal acetyl acetonate which is normally highly catalytic at relatively low temperatures. It will be appreciated that high catalytic activity at relatively low temperature will lead to deleterious premature cure. By adding acetyl acetone into the catalyst system, the acetyl acetone acts to delay and/or slow the catalytic action of the metal acetyl acetonate until the polyurethane is heated at which point the acetyl acetone is driven off and the metal acetyl acetonate then provides a relatively fast cure at the elevated temperature.

A novel and improved device for interconnecting an integrated circuit package to a circuit board is presented. In accordance with the present invention an integrated circuit package having an central area devoid of surface contacts is positioned over a resilient or compressible connector system. The compressible connector includes an opening about its center which corresponds to the central area on the integrated circuit package. A component is mounted onto the circuit board within the opening of the compressible connector between the integrated circuit package and the circuit board.

Device for interconnecting integrated circuit packages to circuit boards

Processes for preparing same for demateably interconnecting arrays of contact pads. The connector has a preformed sheet-form member provided with a series of apertures through each of which an electrically conductive plated metal deposit extends. An integral end of the deposits protrudes outwardly beyond a surface of the sheet-form member, forming contact surfaces for demateably engaging the pads.

Array connector

A circuit board electrical interconnection system, including improved, elongated, bodily-rotatable interconnect elements, is disclosed. Each element has tab portions projection angularly from the opposing ends of the element, which tab portions define a pair of pad engagement surfaces. The pad engagement surfaces engage corresponding contact pads on opposing surfaces of two circuit boards by means of elastic support member. The element is divided longitudinally, axially or laterally into a plurality of sectors. Some sectors are electrically conductive, while others have other electrically predetermined characteristics. The two types of sectors are arranged in an alternating patter. The non-conducting sectors may be comprised of insulative, resistive or capacitive materials.

Connector arrangement system and interconnect element

Connector and processes for preparing same for demateably interconnecting arrays of contact pads. The connector has a preformed elastomeric sheet-form member provided with a series of apertures through each of which an electrically conductive plated metal deposit extends. An integral end of the deposits protrudes outwardly beyond a surface of the sheet-form member, forming contact surfaces for demateably engaging the pads.
