An adjustable stroke device for a random orbital machine has a housing with a central axis and a wall defining a cavity. At least one counterweight is movably disposed at least partially within the cavity. A mounting assembly is disposed at least partially within the cavity. The mounting assembly has a workpiece attachment mechanism. A stroke adjuster couples the at least one counterweight with the mounting assembly. The stroke adjuster enables the at least one counterweight and mounting assembly to move with respect to one another such that a distance between the at least one counterweight and the mounting assembly may be variably adjusted which, in turn, variably adjust a stroke radius of the workpiece attachment mechanism with respect to the central axis of the housing. The stroke adjuster has an adjuster ring and a cam mechanism secured with the adjuster ring.

A buffing and polishing member has an uncompressed monolithic body of foam material having slits from an outside surface toward and less than a distance to a rotational axis of the body. The slits, on circumferential spaced planes, extend generally radially from the outside surface toward and less than a distance to the rotational axis to define a plurality of foam fingers and an unslit center portion. A fastening mechanism holds the center portion of the slit foam body in a compressed state along the rotational axis such that the uncompressed outer ends of the foam finger define a spherocylinder.

An automatic adjustable stroke device for a random orbital machine has a housing with a central axis and a wall defining a cavity. A counterbalance shaft assembly is rotatably disposed at least partially within the cavity. A shaft portion of the counterweight shaft assemblies aligned with the central axis. A mounting assembly is disposed at least partially within the cavity. The mounting assembly has a workpiece attachment mechanism. A stroke adjuster couples the counterweight shaft with the mounting assembly. The stroke adjuster enables the mounting assembly to adjust its stroke upon rotation of counterweight shaft. The mounting assembly variably adjusts a stroke radius of the workpiece attachment mechanism with respect to the central axis of the housing. The stroke adjuster has a gear automatically adjusting the mounting assembly stroke.

A mounting assembly is disposed within the cavity. The mounting assembly has a workpiece attachment mechanism. A stroke adjustor couples the at least one counterweight with the mounting assembly. The stroke adjustor enables the counterweight and mounting assembly to move with respect to one another such that a distance between the counterweight and the mounting assembly is variably adjusted which, in turn, variably adjusts a stroke radius of the workpiece attachment mechanism with respect to the central axis of the housing.

A cooling device for a rotating machine has a fan assembly coupled with a backing plate. A hub, on the backing plate, secures the cooling device with a shaft. The backing plate includes one or more vents to enable air to exit the cooling device. The fan includes an opening to enable air to enter the cooling device. A chamber is formed between the fan assembly and the backing plate. During rotation, air is drawn into the opening. The air is passed into the chamber and exits through the vents to cool a work surface or working pad attached to the backing plate.

An adjustable stroke mechanism for a random orbital machine including a housing having a wall enclosing a cavity, an adjuster ring surrounding the housing and having a first set of gear teeth along a first portion of an inner surface, and a second set of gear teeth along a second portion of the inner surface, a counterweight having gear teeth on an exterior surface disposed within the housing, and a bearing carriage having gear teeth disposed within the housing. At least one counterweight gear that meshes with the gear teeth of the counterweight and the first set of gear teeth of the adjuster ring, and at least one bearing carriage gear that meshes with the gear teeth of the bearing carriage and the second set of gear teeth of the adjuster ring, so that movement of the adjuster ring causes movement of both the counterweight and the bearing carriage.
