A system and method for non-square blind source separation (BSS) under coherent noise. The system and method for non-square BSS estimates the mixing parameters of a mixed source signal and filters the estimated mixing parameters so that output noise is reduced and the mixed source signal is separated from the noise. The filtering is accomplished by a linear filter that performs a beamforming for reducing the noise and another linear filter that solves a source separation problem by selecting time-frequency points where, according to a W-disjoint orthogonality assumption, only one source is active.

A method is presented for eliminating an unwanted signal (e.g., background music, interference, etc.) from a mixture of a desired signal and the unwanted signal via time-frequency masking. Given a mixture of the desired signal and the unwanted signal, the goal of the present invention is to eliminate or at least reduce the effects of the unwanted signal to obtain an estimate of the desired signal.

Method for eliminating an unwanted signal from a mixture via time-frequency masking

A method for blind source separation of sources detects the sources using sensors to obtain representative data. The data is then represented by two mixtures having estimates of amplitude and delay mixing parameters. The estimates are updated, including: calculating error measures, each indicating a closeness of the estimates for a given source to a given time-frequency point in the mixtures; and revising the estimates, based on the error measures. The mixtures are filtered to obtain estimates of the sources, including: selecting one error measure having a smallest value in relation to any other error measures, for each time-frequency point in the mixtures; and leaving unaltered any time-frequency points for which a given error measure has the smallest value, while setting to zero any other time-frequency points for which the given error measure does not have the smallest value, for each error measure. The estimates of the sources are output.

Online blind source separation

A delay and attenuation compensation-based BSS technique for source selection and noise reduction is provided for speech recognition applications. The undesired signals are attenuated in every situation and from every direction as much as possible. For this purpose, the direction of the input signals is determined. Depending on the direction of the undesired signals, the internal delay between the microphones is calculated. This internal delay is then used in subtracting the microphone signals from each other. Therefore, the invention gives not only a good directionality on average, but the best directionality for every listening situation. Furthermore, the channel selection problem is solved in conjunction with the BSS technique.

Device and method for demixing signal mixtures using fast blind source separation technique based on delay and attenuation compensation, and for selecting channels for the demixed signals

A method and system for blind channel estimation comprises acquiring two mixtures of at least one at least weakly W-disjoint orthogonal source signal, calculating point-by-point ratios of a transform of a time-window of each of said mixture signals, determining channel parameter estimates from said ratios, constructing a histogram of said channel parameter estimates, repeating the calculating, determining and constructing steps for successive time windows of the mixture signals, and selecting as estimates of said channel parameters those estimates associated with identified peaks on said histogram.
