Systems and methods of recommending replacement of printheads. In an embodiment, a system trains a first neural network to generate anomaly scores for printheads using an unsupervised learning algorithm based on first training samples of conforming printhead data from a pool of conforming printheads. The system generates a training dataset for a recurrent second neural network by identifying training printhead data for a pool of training printheads, inputting second training samples of the training printhead data into the first neural network to generate training anomaly scores for the training printheads over a plurality of time units, and formatting third training samples for the training printheads. The system trains the recurrent second neural network to generate scaled anomaly scores for printheads using a supervised learning algorithm based on the second training dataset.

Printhead maintenance for recommending printhead replacement

Systems and methods are provided for. One embodiment is a system that includes an interface configured to receive an image of media printed on with print data, and memory configured to store defect reference data of nozzles belonging to printheads of a printer. The system also includes a print defect controller configured to detect a nozzle defect in the image based on a comparison of the image with the print data, and to determine a type of the nozzle defect based on a comparison of the nozzle defect with the defect reference data.

Enhanced print defect detection

A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes at least one physical memory device to store calibration logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the calibration logic to receive a first printer transfer function, receive a first print substrate transfer function associated with a first print substrate and generate a composite transfer function based on a function composition operation of the first print substrate transfer function and the first printer transfer function.

Printer calibration mechanism

A system is disclosed. The system comprises one or more print controllers to generate print interrupt instructions in response to receiving a web splice signal indicating that a web splice on a web print medium has been detected, wherein the print interrupt instructions indicate a first side sheet image and a second side sheet image within a print job to pause prior to stopping printing, wherein the print interrupt instructions comprise gap instructions to open a first printhead gap at the first print engine and to open a second printhead gap at the second print engine, control printing of the first side sheet image on a first side of a web at a first print engine based on the print interrupt instructions, control printing of the second side sheet image to a second side of the web at a second print engine based on the print interrupt instructions, wherein the print interrupt instructions are generated based on a determination of an interrupted first side sheet image to be paused prior to opening the first printhead gap and a determination of an interrupted second side sheet image to be paused prior to opening the second printhead gap.

A system is disclosed. The system includes at least one physical memory device to store scaling correction logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the scaling correction logic to receive first measured print image data associated with printed test marks on a first print medium from a first side of a first page image of a print job and second measured print image data associated with printed test marks on the first print medium from a second side of the first page image, generate a first side scaling factor based on the first measured print image data and a second side scaling factor based on the second measured print image data, generate a first page scaling factor including the first side scaling factor and the second side scaling factor and generate a scaling factor correction based on the page scaling factor.

Print scaling correction mechanism

A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes at least one physical memory device to store defective print element determination logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the defective print element determination logic to receive a print image comprising evaluation marks and locator marks applied to a print medium by a plurality of pel forming elements according to print instructions and identify pel forming elements associated with print defect pels in the print image among the plurality of pel forming elements based on the evaluation marks, the locator marks and the print instructions.

Defective nozzle locating mechanism

Systems and methods are provided for enhanced flushing of printing systems. One embodiment is a printing system that includes an ink flushing controller. The ink flushing controller is able to identify an overlap region wherein nozzles at adjacent printheads of a marking engine overlap along a widthwise direction, to detect primary nozzles that print image data within the overlap region, and to detect overlap nozzles that do not have firing instructions to eject ink within the overlap region. The ink flushing controller is further able to analyze nozzle firing data for each overlap nozzle to determine inactive firing spans for each overlap nozzle, and in response to determining that an inactive firing span for an overlap nozzle exceeds a threshold, to generate a firing instruction directing the overlap nozzle to eject ink.

A printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes at least one physical memory device to store uniformity compensation logic and one or more processors coupled with the at least one physical memory device to execute the uniformity compensation logic to receive print image measurement data corresponding with each of a plurality of pel forming elements, generate a first set of intermediate images based on the print image measurement data, determine whether historical sets of intermediate images are available, generate first transfer functions corresponding to each of the pel forming elements based on the first set of intermediate images and the historical sets of intermediate images upon a determination that the historical sets of intermediate images are available and transmit the first transfer functions for each of the pel forming elements.

Uniformity compensation refinement mechanism

Systems and methods are provided for print review systems. One embodiment is a print review system that includes a memory that stores inspection parameters of print media marked by a printer, an interface that communicates with the printer, and a controller that, in response to the printer initiating processing of a print job, receives an indication via the interface of settings used by the printer in processing the print job, modifies the parameters based on the settings, inspects the print media based on the modified parameters, and reports compliance of the print job with the modified parameters.

Self-configuring inspection systems for printers

Systems and methods for dryer rollers of a print system with increasing wrap angles. In one embodiment a dryer includes a turning device configured to rotate about an axis, and to guide a web of print media. The dryer also includes rollers configured to transport the web from an entrance of the dryer to the turning device. The rollers include a series of three or more rollers positioned in the dryer to consecutively increase an amount of contact area with the web as the web travels toward the turning device.

Systems and methods are provided for reviewing printed jobs. One embodiment is a system that includes a print review device. The print review device includes a memory that stores data which indicates whether regions along a width of print media marked by a printer are flagged as bypassable, and a controller configured to determine printhead conditions along the width of the print media, associate each printhead condition with a corresponding region, and to generate a report with notifications of printhead conditions within each region that has not been flagged, while suppressing notifications of printhead conditions within regions that have been flagged.

Systems and methods are provided for reviewing printed jobs. On embodiment is a system comprising a print review device. The print review device includes a memory that stores an image of a test pattern printed by printheads of a printer, and a controller that generates a Graphical User Interface (GUI), for presentation at a display, depicting states of the printheads based on the image, receives input from a user selecting one of the printheads, correlates the printhead with a portion of the image, and presents the portion of the image for review at the GUI. The controller also identifies locations on the portion that are correlated with nozzles of the printhead, and selectively highlights the locations based on state information for the nozzles.
