Provided are technologically improved systems and methods for providing terrain and runway feedback for an aircraft over a secured datalink. The method utilizes a controller onboard the aircraft and one on the ground. The controller onboard the aircraft performs the operations of: formatting a data package of mobile platform data; confirming the aircraft has a valid subscription service; securing the data package using a security protocol; and transmitting the data package via a secured datalink. The ground controller performs the operations of: confirming the subscription service of the aircraft; validating the security protocol used on the data package; decoding and processing the data with map extraction, threat detection, and image generation to generate raw terrain and runway feedback data; and transmitting the raw data using the secured datalink. An alert controller is used to generate alert commands for various alert devices based on the raw terrain and runway feedback data.

Systems and methods for providing a terrain and runway alerting service over a secured data link

This disclosure is directed to techniques for automated transmission of surveillance incident data or other anomalous incident data from an aircraft via a preferred transmission mode. An example method includes detecting, by a processing device onboard an aircraft, an anomalous incident involving the aircraft that qualifies for reporting relative to a set of anomalous incident reporting criteria. The method further includes identifying, by the processing device, data onboard the aircraft relevant to the anomalous incident. The method further includes detecting that the aircraft is in a status that makes available a selected data transmission mode for transmitting the data relevant to the anomalous incident. The method further includes communicating the data relevant to the anomalous incident to a transmission system for transmission from the aircraft via the selected data transmission mode in response to detecting that the aircraft is in the status that makes available the selected data transmission mode.

Automated transmission of vehicle anomalous incident data via preferred transmission modes

This disclosure is directed to techniques for automated transmission of surveillance incident data or other anomalous incident data from an aircraft via a preferred transmission mode. An example method includes detecting, by a processing device onboard an aircraft, an anomalous incident involving the aircraft that qualities for reporting relative to a set of anomalous incident reporting criteria. The method further includes identifying, by the processing device, data onboard the aircraft relevant to the anomalous incident. The method further includes detecting that the aircraft is in a status that makes available a selected data transmission mode for transmitting the data relevant to the anomalous incident. The method further includes communicating the data relevant to the anomalous incident to a transmission system for transmission from the aircraft via the selected data transmission mode in response to detecting that the aircraft is in the status that makes available the selected data transmission mode.

Automated transmission of aircraft anomalous incident data via preferred transmission modes

Systems and methods are operable to identify and indicate opportunities for an In-Trail procedure (ITP) aircraft to make an ITP altitude change. An exemplary embodiment receives information corresponding to a desired ITP altitude for the ITP aircraft and a projected window period; estimates at least one ITP maneuver opportunity window based on the estimated location of each of the plurality of other aircraft and based on a current airspeed and a current altitude of the ITP aircraft; generates a screen shot that presents an ITP maneuver opportunity window icon, wherein the ITP maneuver opportunity window icon graphically indicates the soonest time and the latest time that the ITP aircraft may initiate the ITP maneuver, and wherein the ITP maneuver opportunity window icon indicates an altitude change made by the ITP aircraft will maintain minimum safe self-separation distances from the plurality of other aircraft during the ITP maneuver.

Systems and methods for in-trail opportunity window estimator

Systems and methods for alerting a flight crew when the vertical situation display may be providing incomplete information due to the presence of a non-computed trajectory segment in the flight plan. A processing device in signal communication with a flight management system, a position measuring system, and a velocity measuring system receives a flight plan from the flight management system and determines if the flight plan includes any non-computed trajectory segments. If at least one of time or distance to the beginning of a next non-computed trajectory segment is less than a threshold value, the processing device generates an alert that information displayed on a vertical situation display may be incomplete. An output device outputs the generated alert.

Systems and methods for improving predicted path display output

Systems and methods are operable to present graphical information indicating capability of an aircraft to change altitude. An exemplary embodiment determines an altitude change capability of the aircraft; determines an altitude change capability icon based on the determined altitude change capability of the aircraft, wherein the altitude change capability icon is defined by at least a leading portion, a trailing portion, a top portion, and a bottom portion, wherein a slope of the leading portion of the altitude change capability icon corresponds to the determined altitude change capability of the aircraft, and wherein the leading portion and the trailing portion are separated by at least the top portion and the bottom portion; and communicates the altitude change capability icon to a display for presentation to the crew of the aircraft.

Systems and methods for graphically indicating aircraft ascent and descent capabilities

A surveillance system detects potential hazards and alerts the pilot to them. The alerts can be modified to indicate proximity to the predicted path of the aircraft. An autopilot receives instructions from a flight management system (FMS) regarding a planned path and is subject to constraints preempting the planned path. The surveillance system selects which of the planned and a constrained path will be followed for alerting and hazard coding purposes. Means are disclosed to determine when the constrained path will be followed by comparing the current position of an aircraft, the planned path, and the constraint data. Current positions exceeding the tolerance cause the surveillance system to select the planned path as the future path to be followed. If initiation of a constraint has been detected and the current position is within the tolerance, the surveillance system selects the constrained path as the future path.

Predicted path selection system and method for hazard coding in selectively constrained aircraft control systems
