A method of creating a modified heterophasic polyolefin composition is provided, whereby a polyolefin composition having at least two phases is melt mixed with a free radical generator, such as a peroxide, and a compatibilizing agent characterized by at least one nitroxide radical and at least one unsaturated bond capable of undergoing a radical addition reaction. Modified heterophasic polyolefin compositions with increased melt flow rates, impact strength, and clarity, which incorporate the compatibilizing agent, are also included within the scope of the invention.

Modified heterophasic polyolefin composition

A thermoplastic polymer composition comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a compatibilizing agent comprising a fulvene moiety or a fulvene-derived moiety. A heterophasic polymer composition comprises a propylene polymer phase, an ethylene polymer phase, and a compatibilizing agent comprising a fulvene moiety or a fulvene-derived moiety.

Thermoplastic polymer compositions

A method for producing a polymer composition comprises the steps of providing a compatibilizing agent, providing a heterophasic polymer composition, providing a second polymer composition comprising recycled polymer; mixing the compatibilizing agent, the heterophasic polymer composition, and the second polymer composition, and generating free radicals in the heterophasic polymer composition and the second polymer composition. At least a portion of the compatibilizing agent is believed to react with the free radicals generated in the heterophasic polymer composition and the second polymer composition.

Method for making heterophasic polymer compositions

A method for modifying a heterophasic polymer composition comprises the steps of providing a compatibilizing agent, providing a heterophasic polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer phase and an ethylene polymer phase, mixing the compatibilizing agent and the heterophasic polymer composition, and generating free radicals in the propylene phase and the ethylene phase. At least a portion of the compatibilizing agent then reacts with free radicals in both the propylene polymer phase and the ethylene polymer phase to form a bond with a propylene polymer in the propylene polymer phase and a bond with an ethylene polymer in the ethylene polymer phase.

A heterophasic polymer composition comprises a propylene polymer phase, an ethylene polymer phase, and a compatibilizing agent. The compatibilizing agent is a compound comprising at least one moiety conforming to the structure of Formula (I)

The compatibilizing agent reacts with propylene polymers and ethylene polymers thereby bonding propylene polymers to ethylene polymers.

A heterophasic polymer composition comprises a propylene polymer phase, an ethylene polymer phase, and a compatibilizing agent. The compatibilizing agent comprises (i) an acyclic carbon-carbon double bond having a first carbon atom and a second carbon atom, (ii) an electron withdrawing group directly bonded to the first carbon atom in the acyclic carbon-carbon double bond, and (iii) a second carbon-carbon multiple bond in conjugation with the acyclic carbon-carbon double bond, wherein the second carbon-carbon multiple bond is linked to the acyclic carbon-carbon double bond through the second carbon atom.

A thermoplastic polymer composition comprises a thermoplastic polymer and a nucleating agent. The nucleating agent comprises a compound conforming to the structure of Formula (I), Formula (II), or Formula (III)
