Light guide for narrow aperture luminaire

A light guide for a luminaire is provided. The light guide includes: an elongated base comprising a light emitting surface at a distal end, and opposing major faces; and a plurality of collimators arranged in an adjacent manner and projecting in a proximal direction from the base, wherein each collimator has a light receiving surface at a proximal end, wherein each collimator expands laterally outwardly in a distal direction. Substantially all light received at the light receiving surfaces internally reflects through the collimators and the base and emits from the light emitting surface.

Narrow aperture luminaires and light guides therefor

A light guide is provided. The light guide includes a planar body with a first light receiving surface, a light transmission region in optical communication with the first light receiving surface, and an aperture having an inner circumferential wall defining a light emission region, the inner circumferential wall having a plurality of vertically extending flutes. Substantially all light received at the light receiving surface internally reflects through the transmission region before extraction at the emission region. A luminaire is also provided. The luminaire includes a housing, a light guide as described herein, and a plurality of point light sources in optical communication with the light receiving surface of the light guide.

Apertured light guides for luminaires

A light guide is disclosed. The light guide may comprise a wedge shape. The light guide includes a light receiving surface, a light transmission region, a transition region, and a light emission region. Light emission region includes a first major surface and an opposing second major surface. The light emission region may include a plurality of steps disposed along a length of one or both of the major surfaces. The light emission region may also include a plurality of vertically-extending flutes along one or both of the major surfaces. A luminaire assembly incorporating the light guide is also disclosed.

Wedge-shaped light guides for luminaries and luminaire assemblies incorporating same

A light guide for luminaires is disclosed. In some embodiments the light guide is oriented to receive light from a point light source at a light receiving surface configured to refract incoming light at angles to enable total internal reflection (TIR) of the light down the body of the light guide without loss of light. A foot at the bottom of the body of the light guide includes a first sloped face wherefrom a portion of the light is extracted downward toward a work plane in a batwing distribution and a second sloped face and a return face wherefrom the remaining light is extracted upward.

A light emitting panel assembly is provided. The light emitting panel assembly includes: a housing; a light guide within the housing, the light guide having a first major surface with a plurality of extraction elements, a second major surface, a lower surface, an upper surface, a light source adjacent to the lower surface of the light guide; and an upper guide reflector having a diffuse reflective surface adjacent to and facing the upper surface of the light guide, whereby light from the light source traveling through the light guide toward the upper guide reflector spreads within the light guide, and whereby the upper guide reflector homogenizes the light before the light is redirected to the light guide. A luminaire comprising such a light emitting panel assembly is also provided.
